A ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the completion of the Longmeadow Parkway Corridor and the opening of the new bridge that crosses the Fox River will be held Thursday. (Kane County)

By MIKE DANAHEY | Elgin Courier-News

The completion of the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting event to be held at the Carpentersville bridge at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.

Years in planning and construction, the opening of the bridge is the last step in a significant development in Kane County infrastructure, “enhancing connectivity, improving
transportation efficiency and fostering economic growth,” a news release said.

The Longmeadow Parkway is a 5.6-mile stretch of road between Huntley Road and Route 62 that crosses through Carpentersville, Algonquin and Barrington Hills. Its centerpiece is the bridge that crosses over the Fox River.

Initially, the bridge was to be paid for with tolls but state legislators secured enough funding to cover the cost of construction bonds without requiring a user fee to pay for them. It is one of three regional bridges over the river in the northern Kane County area.

A three-vehicle crash on Route 22 west of Harbor Road in unincorporated Barrington near Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital sent six people to the hospital Friday (?) afternoon. | Photo: Nick Rusin

By Sam Borcia | Lake & McHenry County Scanner

Six people, including an infant, were transported to hospitals after a three-vehicle head-on crash that left one car rolled over next to a hospital near Barrington.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 1:30 p.m. Friday (?) to the area of Route 22 west of Harbor Road in unincorporated Barrington for a rollover crash with injuries.

A preliminary investigation shows a 2018 Volvo T6, driven by a 34-year-old Cary woman, was traveling eastbound on Route 22, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

The driver of the Volvo drifted into the westbound lanes of traffic as she reached into her backseat, which resulted in the Volvo striking a westbound 2011 Toyota Corolla.

Covelli said the Toyota, driven by an 84-year-old Huntley man, was struck head-on.

The impact caused the Volvo to flip onto its side after first striking another westbound vehicle, a 2024 Subaru Forester, driven by a 41-year-old man from Neenah, Wisconsin, Covelli said.

“The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is resurfacing Route 59 south of Main Street (Lake Cook Road) this summer. Resurfacing work will take place on Route 59 (Hough Street) between Main Street and Hawthorne Road (where Route 59 splits with Barrington Road), and additional roadway sealing work will take place south of the split to Dundee Road. Work also includes replacement of sidewalks at intersections and generally is planned to progress from south to north.

Work will begin with curb sawcutting, which is currently anticipated to commence on Wednesday, June 5. Concrete removal and replacement work will follow, with replacements on the east side completed first followed by those on the west side of the street.

Work will not necessitate any permanent lane closures. Flaggers will be utilized to direct traffic around the work zone, which may impact travel times, please plan accordingly. Any questions or concerns can be reported to IDOT via their online portal.” | Village of Barrington

Editorial note: Many believe this section of Route 59 does not need resurfacing (as was the case last year with Oak Knoll Road), and view this as a waste of tax dollars considering the poor condition of some other local roads.

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that a patching and resurfacing of Illinois 59 (Barrington Road/Hough Street) from Main Street, in Barrington, to Hawthorne Road (Illinois 59), in Barrington Hills, will require intermittent daytime lane closures beginning, weather permitting, Monday, June 3.

The project, which also includes constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps and cleaning and sealing cracks on Hawthorne Road south to Dundee Road (Illinois 68), is anticipated to be completed in September.

Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Current Barrington Hills President Brian Cecola

Our Village recently posted their ”Spring 2024” newsletter. This issue includes:

  • President’s Letter
  • Police Chief Colditz Retires in July
  • HAVE A CUP O’ “JOE” WITH CHIEF COLDITZ
  • Police Department Earns Reaccreditation
  • Lunch with a Cop
  • Arbor Day and Earth Day! How did you observe these days?
  • Road Program 2024
  • Soon to make an appearance…2024 Cicadas, and
  • June 29 Land We Love Run

What the newsletter lacks is a considerable number of updates from Q-1 2024 that residents should be aware of, including:

  • In a special meeting January 3, the Board voted to amend our code to, “Create a license requirement for (migrant) chartered transportation drop-off services (no doubt to prevent the godless hoards if immigrants from soiling the new floor in the lobby of Village Hall)).”
  • Increased penalty amounts for Code violations.
  • Any information whatsoever on the Board’s vote in February to annex seven (7) parcels of land into Barrington Hills.
  • The Village is purchasing and replacing security video recording and management systems in Village Hall, and
  • The Zoning Board is reviewing significant updates and addition to codes including fence/berm allowed heights, regulations for roof and/or ground mounted solar panels and wind energy systems and codes covering anything mobile residents might store on their property.

Further, minutes from the February meeting of BACOG include, “Cecola reported the Village recently annexed two landscaping businesses.” Why didn’t “Cecola” bother to drop this and other meaningful nuggets content into his message to residents?

The answer is simple. The Cecola administration does not want informed residents. Sure, this publication and others have done their best to inform residents. But clearly when it comes what we share with our readers, our president would rather you just fuhgeddaboudit.
