The Forest Preserve District of Cook County (FPDCC) presentation of long-term plans for Horizon Farm & Spring Creek scheduled for tomorrow evening has been cancelled. Before posting news of the cancellation, we’d hoped to announce a new date, however recent news of the Forest Preserves of Cook County General Superintendent stepping down squashed that plan.
Once a new date, time and location is announced, we’ll be sure to post it.

“Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will host a virtual flood map information open house on March 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. for communities in northwest Cook and northeast Kane Counties, according to a news release.
Revised areas are within the Poplar Creek and Spring Creek watersheds, including portions of Barrington Hills, Elgin, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Schaumburg, South Barrington, Streamwood and South Elgin. The open house will give residents the chance to review preliminary versions of a recently completed Flood Insurance Study and its accompanying preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map.
The FIS and FIRMs provide base flood information, designate areas that are subject to significant flood hazards and offer information that public officials may use when permitting development in the floodplain.
At the virtual open house, representatives from local, state and federal agencies will provide the most current information about flood risk, flood insurance, floodplain development regulations and the process for floodplain mapping within the Poplar Creek and Spring Creek watersheds. The newly prepared preliminary floodplain maps can also be viewed at the meeting. FEMA intends that they be used as tools to assist planning processes and outreach efforts to quickly respond to and recover from future events, the release stated.

In May of last year, the Board of Trustees directed the Plan Commission to review the Village Comprehensive Plan and make recommendations for any changes they saw fit for the Board to adopt. The last time the Comprehensive Plan was updated was 2005 and amendments were approved in 2008.
After nearly a year of work and meetings, the Plan Commission has agreed to the changes they would like seen in the Plan. A copy of their proposed 2019 Village Comprehensive Plan can be viewed and downloaded here.
A public hearing is scheduled for July 8th at 6:30 PM to allow residents to voice their comments, or feedback can be provided to the Village Clerk at clerk@vbhil.gov.

Three Barrington area conservation organizations will collaborate to help Barrington-area residents protect local water sources, thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Barrington Area Community Foundation.
Flint Creek/Spring Creek Watersheds Partnership, Barrington Area Conservation Trust and Citizens for Conservation will work together to create restoration demonstration areas, educational activities, native planting instructions, sample planting designs, online resources, and how-to libraries.
Each organization will draw on its area of expertise for the initiative. Flint Creek/Spring Creek Watersheds Partnership will coordinate and lead efforts; Barrington Area Conservation Trust will develop the demonstration area along Flint Creek in Pederson Preserve in Barrington; and Citizens for Conservation will develop the schematic planting design, determine best native plants and create homeowner designs.
