“Village ordinances regarding solicitation and trespass to land both require notice from the owner or occupant that such activity is prohibited.  Accordingly, the Police Department strongly recommends that all residents conspicuously post written notice (i.e. a sign) at the main entrance to their property, such as, but certainly not limited to, on a mailbox post or fire grid address sign post. To encourage and assist residents in this effort, the Department has purchased a supply of reflective aluminum signs which are available for sale at the Department’s cost: $9.30 per sign.

Signs may be purchased during normal business hours (Monday – Friday  8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) via check or credit card (no cash).  For the fastest and most convenient service, consider pre-paying via the Village’s Illinois ePay webpage and then pick up your sign.”

Hundreds of boaters from around the area met at Port Edward Restaurant in Algonquin to take part in a boat parade in support of President Donald Trump on Sunday, with some traveling as far north as McHenry, the event organizer said.

Barrington Hills resident Steven Riggio said the idea for the Trump-themed boat parade came from a discussion he was having with fellow members of “Fleet 17,” a local boating group.

“We were just talking about how our president was getting beat up and said, you know, why don’t we just grab some flags and do a little flotilla to just let him know that there are some people out here that really do appreciate what he’s doing,” he said.

The initial conversations took place over the summer, but Riggio said he wanted to organize the event as close to the November election as possible while still planning it before it got too cold.

After posting a few call-outs on Facebook, Riggio noticed that the event had been picked up by seven different boating clubs in the area.

“It just started to grow quickly,” he said.

An animal therapy organization has opened its doors at 22093 N. Countryside Lane in Barrington. SOUL Harbour Ranch Animal Therapy is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers who recruit and train people to handle mini-horses, donkeys and therapy dogs.

The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce earlier this month held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at Soul Harbour, which also advocates for animal therapy standards of excellence. “This has been an amazing journey,” said Jodie Diegel, president and founder of SOUL Harbour Ranch. “We started this in 2012 and I am so grateful to everyone who has joined our journey along the way. We’ve built a beautiful facility, but more importantly we’ve built a very special organization filled with SOUL, which stands for Sharing Of Unconditional Love that is shown each day through our animals and volunteers.”

AL-AZHAR ISLAMIC FOUNDATION, BARRINGTON HILLS, IL

Al-Azhar Islamic Foundation is planning an expansion of their facility that will include demolition of an existing one-story ranch building currently used for worship.  The new design is centered on an interior courtyard and includes an Education Wing with 7 classrooms, 2 seminar rooms, a library and bookstore to serve Preschool and Sunday School.  The Prayer Hall located on the opposite side of the courtyard features high ceiling and large arched windows to take advantage of the magnificent views of the wooded lot.  The design features a replica of the distinctive double minaret of Al-Azhar mosque in Cairo, and the exterior borrows from the design elements found in the historic mosque. The project will also include expansion of the existing parking lot and, as part of future Phase 2, a new octagonal Social Hall.”

David and Joyce McArdle, owners of the Frederick House in Barrington Hills, are among 2020 recipients of the Wright Spirit Award.

BARRINGTON HILLS, IL — A local couple is being recognized for their work in restoring a Frank Lloyd House in Barrington Hill they bought in 2016.The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy announced that David and Joyce McArdle are among their 2020 Wright Spirit Award recipients for their restoration of the Frederick House, which is located at 19 W. County Line Road.

Built in 1957 for interior designer Lois Frederick, the Frederick House is among Wright’s last residential commissions designed in the U.S. The McArdles, who also restored Wright’s 1901 F.B. Henderson House in Elmhurst, bought the Barrington Hills property in 2017 for $795,000, according to Architectural Records.

Chicago-based Eifler & Associates, hired by the Barrington Hills couple, restored the natural color and luster to cabinetry, stripping its pink and green tints, and added geothermal heating and cooling.

Also since 2016, a new cedar shake roof was installed, the master bedroom was reconfigured and a new bathroom was added and furniture designed by Wright for the home, but never built, was fabricated and installed, according to a National Register of Historic Places registration form for the Frederick House.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy’s Wright Spirit Award recognizes owners and stewards of Wright buildings and others who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to preserving and restoring the remaining built works designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and enhancing appreciation of Wright’s legacy, according to a news release.

“Dear Barrington 220 Community:

First and foremost, I want to thank you for your patience and understanding since starting the school year with Distance Learning. I know this has been a very difficult time for our community on many different levels.

At the September 15 Board of Education meeting I explained the metrics Barrington 220 will be using for a safe return to in-person learning. During that meeting I also stated that if all metrics are met, our target date to begin implementing a hybrid model would be October 26 and that if it was possible to begin sooner, we would.

Today I am letting you know we have finalized our hybrid plans for each level and we are moving that target date up to Monday, October 19. Please keep in mind, this will only happen if all metrics are met to put us in Step 3 (Hybrid) at that time.

Below you will find links to the hybrid scheduling plans for each level. Please review them carefully. Following this communication, you will receive an email from your child’s principal which further explains the hybrid plan at your school.

On Monday, Sept. 28 we will send out a message in Infinite Campus, asking you to select to enroll your child in the Hybrid plan or continue with Distance Learning until winter break. Your response will be due on Wednesday, Sept. 30 by 11:59pm.

I know there will be many questions on this topic. The district is holding a virtual parent meeting on Monday, Sept. 28 at 6:30pm to answer your questions. All principals will be in attendance.

Revised Timeline

  • Monday, Sept. 28: Send parents message in Infinite Campus asking to select Hybrid or Distance Learning and indicate transportation needs until winter break.
  • Monday, Sept. 28: Virtual Parent Meeting 6:30 PM (Q&A session about Hybrid plans)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 30: Parent selections due in Infinite Campus by 11:59pm
  • Tuesday, Oct. 6: Update Board of Education on Metrics and Hybrid implementation at Board of Education meeting at 7pm.
  • *Wednesday, Oct. 14: Non-Student Attendance Day
  • Oct. 14 & 15: ELC, Elementary, Middle School Parent/Teacher Conferences as scheduled
  • Oct. 14 & 15: PSAT Testing Day for juniors/staff development as scheduled
  • Friday, Oct. 16: Non-Student Attendance Day as scheduled
  • Monday, Oct. 19: Launch Hybrid Plan (if metrics allow)

*Please note: Wednesday, October 14 will now be a non-attendance day for students (except juniors choosing to take the PSAT), as staff work in their school buildings to prepare for the Hybrid transition. Therefore, students will not be in attendance Oct. 14, 15 and 16.”

Tom Wilbeck

District 1

Voters in the McHenry County Board’s District 1, which includes parts of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake, Barrington Hills, Cary and Fox River Grove, have the choice between three candidates to fill two board seats at stake in the Nov. 3 election.

Incumbent Republicans Tom Wilbeck and Yvonne M. Barnes face a challenge from Democrat Theresa Meshes.

We endorse Wilbeck of Barrington Hills and Barnes of Cary. Both candidates have proved knowledgeable on the county’s issues. Wilbeck and Barnes also have residents’ best interests in mind and support reducing property taxes. Wilbeck is adamant about balancing revenues and expenditures, while Barnes offers a solid plan moving forward with the COVID-19 pandemic.
