Incumbents bow out of races – 2010

The Barrington Hills Village Board, embroiled in controversy over the so-called dark-sky proposal and other issues, will have new faces after the April 5 election since two incumbents are not seeking re-election.

No video yet of Barrington Hills meetings – 2011

By a tie vote, the Barrington Hills village board this week narrowly rejected upgrading its meetings’ audio webcasts to video.

While the board did vote in favor of a $5,000 equipment upgrade for the quality of the audio itself, the 3-3 vote on a $36,000 video component failed to make any changes on that front.

“It’s not about money.” Really? – 2012

In recent weeks, The Observer has covered the progress of teacher contract negotiations in Districts 220 and 300.  After a one-day strike, District 300 agreed to a tentative contract with their teachers’ union, LEAD 300, Tuesday evening.   The details of the agreement have not been released, but the main issues were salary and class sizes.   District 220 negotiations, on the other hand, are now entering a mediation phase after talks with the union since last spring resulted in an impasse.

Interest is high in most Northwest suburban races – 2012

If you believe the maxim that all politics is local, April 9 is the election for you.

In Barrington Hills, where heated debates over the regulation of commercial horse-board and outdoor lighting levels have raged for the past few years, the only surprising thing was that most candidates held back until the final hours of the filing period to declare themselves.

New VB Start TimeThe public session of tonight’s Village Board meeting will begin at 6:30 PM.  After the conclusion of the public session, the board will then go into a closed executive session of necessary.

220 Logo“After seven months of study and a recommendation by the Input 220 Advisory Council, followed by another month of deliberation and public hearings conducted by the Board of Education, Barrington 220 will officially move to a new calendar format beginning with the 2014-15 school year. At its Dec. 17 meeting, the Board thanked the Input 220 Advisory Council and approved the new calendar format by a vote of 4-2.”

BCFPD Barrington SplitWith less than two weeks until the Village of Barrington’s Fire Department and the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District begin operating independently, the two sides have still been unable to come to terms on a mutual aid agreement.

The Barrington Village Board previously set a goal to have a deal in place by its Dec. 16 meeting, but the topic was not brought before trustees.

Our Village Board will be holding their regular December meeting this Thursday evening due to the upcoming holidays.  One of the topics for discussion and approval is the 2014 levy.

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Board of Trustees approved the purchase of a new water tanker vehicle (tender) that will vastly improve the BCFPD’s ability to deliver water to areas of the district that do not have fire hydrants, according to a press release.

The new, 3,000-gallon capacity tender recently arrived at district headquarters. It will enter service on Jan. 1, 2014, when the BCFPD begins independent operations.

seal%20of%20illinoisThe Illinois Comptroller’s Office recently announced a new web portal that provides searchable financial information for most all governmental taxing bodies.  A myriad of financial reports are available for viewing including county, municipal, township and district reports.

While the data is not as current as one might prefer, the website does provide a near single source repository of government finance information.
