Kosin_vestTo the Editor:

Thank you to the Northwest Herald for bringing forward a local government story that, at first read, is only about paving a road, and that occurs too often in Illinois to be news.

This paving project is different and worth the notice. It was about intergovernmental cooperation, a theme regularly championed from the statehouse to village halls.

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Board of Trustees has posted their agenda for their January 18th monthly meeting.  The meeting begins at 6:30 PM this evening at 22222 North Pepper Road, Lake Barrington, and a copy of the agenda can be viewed here.

One of the agenda items indicates the board will consider, and possibly approve, moving their dispatch services from CenCom E 9-1-1 to Arlington Heights-based Northwest Central Dispatch System (NCDS).  If approved, the switchover would occur in early 2017.

NCDS handles dispatch services for fire protection in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Palatine Rural Fire Protection District, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and Streamwood.

Barrington Hills, which represents a significant portion of the BCFPD’s coverage area, recently partnered with Carpentersville-based QuadCom for 911 police dispatch services in 2015.  QuadCom also handles dispatch services for other fire protection districts serving parts of Barrington Hills, including Carpentersville and East Dundee, as well as close-by districts in West Dundee and Rutland Dundee Township.

South Barrington, which is primarily covered geographically by BCFPD and East Dundee, also uses QuadCom for their police dispatch.

BCFPD Trustees will also continue their discussions of an ordinance establishing a “Pension Fund Board.”

tax-rebateThe Barrington Hills Park District recently added a revised 2016 form for applying for tax rebates from the district to their website, however new rules regarding the maximum amount available to households will apply.

According to the district website, “You may be rebated for no more than 90 percent of your pro-rated tax amount for the Park District or $70; whichever is the lesser amount, per calendar year, per family.  This reimbursement may be used to cover the cost difference between any in-district and out-of-district rate charged for participation in another Park District’s program.”

The website states 2016 rebate requests must be submitted by January 31, 2016, however the rebate form indicates a deadline of December 31st of this year.  We’re guessing the form is correct, however those interested in taking advantage of the rebate are advised to contact the district for clarification.

A copy of the new rebate form can be viewed and downloaded here.

Campaign Piggy BankAlthough 2016 is not an election year in Barrington Hills for seats on our Board of Trustees, at least four prior political committees are still reporting available campaign funds to the Illinois State Board of Elections in their latest quarterly reports due Friday, January 15th.  Three of those committees reporting date back to the 2013 election.

Here is the information from the four committees we found from elections board records, in descending order of financial balances (presumably available for the 2017 Village election campaigns):

Save Open Space – Barrington Hills Trustees NFP:  We never quite understood what the “NFP” stood for, but clearly this didn’t bother donors.  The SOS Party amassed enough campaign funds in 2014 and 2015 that they now have about $22,000 remaining in their coffers.

A copy of their latest financial report can be viewed here.

Country Oaks Committee to Elect Robert G Abboud:  The former Village President also has excess funds from his 2013 Save 5 Acres campaign for office, totaling roughly $4,800.  A copy of that committee’s latest filing can be viewed here.

Unite Barrington Hills: Also formed before the 2013 election, this committee which supported current board members Colleen Konicek and Martin McLaughlin shows a balance of about $3,000.  Their latest report can be viewed here.

Friends of Kelly Mazeski:  This committee was also one of four operating independently to support a candidate running under the Save 5 Acres moniker in 2013, and it has a balance of around $700.  A copy of the report can be viewed here.

Spring Creek RdThe Village Board has approved $1.2 million in funding for its Highland Avenue Roadway Improvement Project, which will bring improvements to about 4,700 feet of Highland Avenue and Spring Creek Road.

Assistant Village Manager Mike Kumbera said the project will reconstruct 3,500 feet of the road in Algonquin between Tanglewood Drive and the village limits and 1,200 feet of the road in Barrington Hills, from the village limits to Haegers Bend Road.

Kumbera said collaborating with Barrington Hills to do the whole stretch of road at once helped the village take advantage of economies of scale.
