Why are we paying 2 people for a single part time job in the building department? For months now the “training” of the Cecola’s friend has been going on at great expense. What is this NASA? Why do the trustees put up with this? 7 building permits open ONLY. C’mon BOT!
Also looks like they are trying to hire Cecola’s friend to plow the roads for the next 3 years.
Our “Part Time” building department worker just worked 72.5 hours 8/11-8/26 in a 2 week period. That’s a violation of Illinois labor laws. Anything over 20 hours per week requires “Full time” benefit status.
Did we hire Cecola’s wife as a FTE? Is she now getting insurance? IMRF pension? When did that vote take place?
Are you kidding me? A last minute posted contract approved to go with a private company for our snow plowing? I wonder who’s benefitting from this deal?
The company and contract did not go through the R & B committee as is customary and required. Is Bob by running the show now working with his neighbor? I thought transparency was the goal here people. Anyone abstain? Did they explain why?
The very least a voter could expect from their elected officials.
This is a sickening turn of events. It was also unexpected since there was absolutely NO PUBLIC NOTICE to the good TAXPAYERS of Barrington Hills. NONE!!!
What’s next? Does Big Red go to work for the private plowing company to collect her reward? Chances are she won’t even have to show up.
Shame on the trustees who voted in favor of this. You WILL be remembered for this!
I get we have a new administration. Stumbling like this is really unexpected. The learning curve is expected for new trustees but our new
Mayor has been there for 7 years. He did a good job on his committees. Why change now? Even if it’s determined there aren’t problems with the contract and contractor and employee conflicts. It should have all been handled up front, in public and in plain sight. How else can voters find out what’s going on! It has not been.
Why? These self-inflicted gaffes by the President create the APPEARANCE of impropriety. Whether any exists? Who knows. That’s why transparency is the best way to stop questions.
Ok I am still trying to figure this out. Can someone at The Observer please help!
It looks like building department part-time employee was working less than 20 hours per week each and every week for the last year or longer.
Then we have an election and a new president comes in with a new board and suddenly the building department that has no more work than it did before begins to double the hours of the part-time employee without explanation.
Then they ADD an assistant to the assistant. Was there a huge building boom in Barrington Hills that started in May of this year? Were there hundreds of permit applications that suddenly flooded into village hall?
If so this might make sense if not “Lucy, there’s some splaining to do !“
I’m disappointed with Brian Cecola and Ana Paul. What are we now the Barrington Hillsbillies? What is going on? We don’t live in Chicago because we don’t like corrupt politics. We are a small manageable village. Brian and Ana you both know better than to handle our village this way.
Face it, Cecola does nothing without getting “Big Red’s” blessing. She’s always worn the pants at home and the same goes for village hall now obviously. That’s why she’s there all the time.
Please stop the Cecola circus! This needs to end. Let’s take a gander at Mr. (Mrs.) Cecola resume so far. Approved above ground pools. I wonder if they have one? A key employee abruptly quits to get away from the circus. Hired family friend to assist in the building department. Did anyone know the village was hiring so they can apply? Awarding plowing contract to friend that happens to be in the same business as Mr. Cecola. I agree with many of the previous comments, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone in the family is on the payroll. My god, how did the board approve this? I’m very disappointed with Bryan Croll and Colleen Konicek Hannigan, they know better. Besides all this, why would his wife want to work at the village? Does it pay that well? Is she enhancing her business career? Perhaps, his wife needs to keep a short leash on him?
I’m disappointed that you appear to have made assumptions and accepted comments of others without having gone to the source to determine the accuracy.
Accuracy? What’s inaccurate? The Source? Fact- the President doubled his conflicted wife’s hours without telling the board when he should have removed her immediately. Fact- he chose a family friend to replace her. Fact-he “let” her “train” this person for months when last time there was a change it appears from the public records it took just a few days. Fact -the president pushed through (without public review) a private company to plow our roads that he has had business relationships and a personal relationship with without disclosing this to the board or the public prior to calling for a vote. Oh Yeah Disappointed……. WE ALL ARE!!!!!!!
My original reply seems to have disappeared, so I’ll try again, because accuracy matters. There were 2 motions made on the plow contract, first to accept Cuba, which did not carry, 1 for, 4 against, 1 refused to vote; second to accept Mac, which did carry, 4 for, 1 against, and 1 abstain. So, not quite ‘center’.
