The Village has posted audio recordings from the October 20th meeting of the Roads & Bridges Committee.  Several items of note were discussed.

Cuba Bridge ClosureConstruction to replace the Cuba Road Bridge will begin sometime this month.  There is no definitive start date for closure of the bridge, due to the number of utilities involved, and a two week advance posting of detour signs required by Lake County.  Nonetheless, sometime in the near future, the Cuba Road Bridge will be closed for use until at least May of next year.

The 2015 roads program has been completed with a total of 3.9 miles of Village roads resurfaced.  It was reported that due to savings on patching work this year, Rebecca Drive and Tricia Lane were also able to be resurfaced.  A total of $1,020,000 was spent in 2015.

Cuba Township will be plowing Village roadways again this year, and there will be an increase in the cost of salt due to “demand,” however it’s unclear what the demand will be considering the season hasn’t started yet.  Trustee Cecola will be looking into this further.

Residents living on roadways serviced by Cuba Township should be aware that if their mailboxes are damaged as a result of plowing, they should contact Village Hall.  Township workers will repair any damage, including replacing the box itself with a basic USPS approved brand.

The Village has posted recordings from the August and September Roads & Bridges Committee meetings.

The menu of edited topical recordings from the August 18th meeting can be accessed here.  The September 10th special meeting recordings can be heard here.

Residents living along or who use Brinker Road should be interested in the September recordings since Cook County has no scheduled plans to resurface this significantly deteriorated roadway.

Trustee Cecola will be proposing Barrington Hills join the Northwest Municipal Conference (NWMC) at the next Village Board meeting.  Joining NWMC can assist the Village with applying for alternate funding for resurfacing Brinker sooner through the Local Agency Pavement Preservation (LAPP) program.

A direct link to that discussion can be heard here.

The Village has recently posted audio recordings from two meetings that occurred on July 20th.

The topical menu of Roads & Bridges Committee meeting recordings can be accessed here.

Later that day the Zoning Board of Appeals met, and for the most part, the purpose of the meeting was to orient new members to policies, procedures and duties.  At the end of the meeting, however, Zoning Board attorney Mary Dickson provided an update on pending litigation against the Village, and her comments on that matter can be heard here.

The menu for all the topics covered during their meeting can be accessed here.

Road WorkThe Village has posted recordings from the May monthly meeting of the Roads & Bridges Committee meeting.  The link to the menu of edited audio recording segments can be accessed here.

Much of the meeting was spent very candidly discussing the Longmeadow Parkway project, and a number of facts came to light that many residents may not be aware of.  We recommend readers interested in this topic listen to the conversation and presentations, and a queued link to that recording can be accessed here.

The Village has released edited recordings from the Roads & Bridges Committee meeting held on February 17th.  The link to the menu of edited recording segments can be accessed here.

Four people participated during the public comment portion of the meeting, but we believe most readers can relate to the second speaker.  His comments can be heard here.

In addition to the topics on the original meeting agenda, Dan Strahan of Gewalt Hamilton was asked for an update on the Route 68/Dundee Road project announced earlier in February in The Observer.  According to Strahan, not only is IDOT resurfacing Route 68 from Village Hall to the Kane County boarder, they are also adding four-foot paved shoulders along the roadway with gravel shoulders beyond the new paving.

This is likely a first for any road in Barrington Hills since many have no shoulders to speak of, let alone paved.  Once again, we’ll be providing updates on this project as they become available.
