Today’s print and web-based editions of the Northwest Herald contain the same article published in the Kane County Chronicle Friday (see “Longmeadow Parkway project slated for 2016 start despite growing opposition”) regarding Barrington Hills’ opposition to the Longmeadow Parkway project. Unfortunately, both articles, written by the same reporter, contain the following statement:
“After years of support, which included a successful 2006 advisory referendum, the Barrington Hills Village Board in June stated it now opposes the parkway.”
The Village of Barrington Hills has never posed a referendum question on any ballot pertaining to the Longmeadow Parkway project.
The fact is in 2006 the Village approved a resolution titled, “Resolution Supporting a Bridge Study Corridor and Project in Dundee Township for Construction of the Longmeadow Parkway (Bolz Road) Bridge, and Route 62 Traffic Corridor Study from Route 68 to Route 31.” A copy of that resolution can be viewed here.
In addition to the article, the Northwest Herald has posted a survey asking readers of this McHenry County-based publication, “Do you support construction of the Longmeadow Parkway?”
The poll appears in the right margin of today’s web-based Northwest Herald article (depicted at left), and that article can be accessed by clicking here.
We encourage our readers to participate in the poll. (Update: As of 5:30 AM on August 10th the reader poll is closed)
Can someone please explain why Algonquin mayor John Schmitt is pushing so hard to have current commuter traffic from outside his town bypass nearly all retailers along Algonquin Rd in his community twice a day via the use of the Longmeadow Parkway plan? Same goes for McHenry County’s support of this “Kane County” project.
Seems both government bodies have no concern for the loss of sales tax revenues currently pouring into their coffers from retailers who now enjoy traffic along Algonquin Rd if consumers bypass, so what is their motivation for likely lowering this revenue with their support?
Right On Petty Politics – it is astonishing that Algonquin Business’ could be supporters of this project?
My credo as an investigator is, and always has been……follow the money!
One way to legitimize a current event is to revise history! Anyone else wonder whom the reporter may have interviewed for his article?
NW Herald refuses to let the facts get in the way of the story line. BHO is correct in its analysis again. . . By the way BHO, what was the outcome of the studies and actions concerning [remote] Bolz road bridge and impact on VBH resolved to be undertaken by former VBH President and BOT in the BHO cited VBH resolution? Isn’t this the real story?
Did former VBH President and BOT enlist BACOG to assist with any of these “resolved” studies or action items? I hope BHO follows-up with the results of the promises made by former VBH President and VBH BOT in the cited resolution. . . .
In the unlikely event nothing was done would it be justified for residents assume this is because of the secret deal between former elected official(s) of VBH and Algonquin Village President involving zoning on Duda Property for LMP? You know, the secret deal Trustee Gohl disclosed a few meetings ago.
All too common with VBH government, more questions than answers. . .
