Martin McLaughlin Louis Iacovelli
Several candidates running for spots on the Barrington Hills Village Board highlighted property rights, government transparency and village spending as top issues facing the village, giving local voters much to think about before the municipal election April 4.
In total, two candidates are vying for the title of village president and six others are campaigning to secure three trustee seats on the board.
Village President Martin McLaughlin is running for re-election against first-time challenger Louis Iacovelli. Like in the 2013 election, McLaughlin is campaigning alongside trustee Colleen Konicek Hannigan, who also is seeking re-election, both candidates said.
Iacovelli has formed a similar political slate with trustee candidates Paula Jacobsen and Robert Zubak.
The other candidates for Barrington Hills trustee, who all are running independently, include Matt Vondra, Ralph Sesso and Elaine Ramesh.

I recently received a flyer stating that one LINDA COOLS is running as a WRITE IN CANDIDATE. You should add her to your list of candidates. Also in the digital age of Voting you actually press the write in button and the write in candidates name appears so you can Vote for the candidate. It is all electronic in the 21 century.
As a candidate who legally filed papers to run for Village Trustee in this election as a write-in candidate , I am puzzled and wondering why the Observer didn’t fact check this story, as they originally mentioned I was running as an independent when papers were first filed. So, sad that our tiny municipality talks about transparency, but apparently in this case didn’t bother to ?
I would like an apology from the reporter who failed to take the time to interview me and rightfully posted my name, and an opportunity to articulate my views as a candidate and have those opinions posted here for all residents to access. The Observer should do the same. Interestingly I recently sent out my candidate introductory letter, but somehow that information got circumvented. Well folks, those who support will recognize this type of “transparency” will not be encouraged one bit to vote for me, even though my name was conveniently omitted. It only showcases how the democratic process really works.
Ah, small town pathetic politics.

Candidate Jacobsen – funny, I just received an email and a text message from the Village:
“The Village of Barrington Hills would like to inform you that the westbound Route 14 remains closed between Cuba Road and Hart Road due to a previous traffic crash; traffic is being re-routed northbound on Hart Road to Cuba Road. It is anticipated that the road will be open for the morning commute.
This e-mail has been sent to you by VILLAGE OF BARRINGTON HILLS. To maximize their communication with you, you may be receiving this e-mail in addition to a phone call with the same message. Is this an act of desperation on your part to discredit the current Village Administration with an outright lie? You must be taking lessons from an ex official of the Village – one famous for not telling the truth!
