The Village has released recordings from the July 14 Plan Commission meeting. To access the menu of the meeting’s topical audio recording segments, click here.
Residents who live in the vicinity of Haegers Bend Road are advised to listen to the “Barrington Hills Roadway Report” recording to learn more about why, when, and more importantly, with what authority Trustee Patty Meroni and staff began working with McHenry County officials for improvements to the road. As noted in a previous article, this costly initiative to widen the road began in 2012 under the prior administration, but these recordings raise serious concerns about what right these individuals have to negotiate on behalf of the Village and who delegated that authority.
Spring Creek Road residents should also be interested in this recording segment since the recent reclassification of that road in exchange for outside funding was a prime topic of discussion, as is a pledge to McHenry County by Trustee Meroni in 2013 to remove the island at the corner of Spring Creek and Haegers Bend. A direct link to the recording can be accessed here.
As a reminder, Trustee Meroni and her staff are hosting a public hearing this evening on Haegers Bend Rd this evening at Village Hall beginning at 6:00 PM. All available background documentation available to the public can be accessed here.
Shall we bring tomatoes to throw at the imbecile that started this issue? And what was paid to Strahan – our village engineer and her partner in crime? Were these monies ever accounted for? How were the spoils divied up???
Our Barrington Hills community needs a forum like The Barrington Hills Observer. A forum where views that often run counter to the majority opinions or actions taken by the Board of Trustees (BOT) and various Village commissions can be a vital source of informations critical for democracy to work successfully.
That being said…
First, I want to ask, What did the individual hiding behind the nom de plume, “The Truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth”, add to our civic dialogue?
Second my comment:
There is a lot of outside pressure for bike paths. The pressure comes not only from local bike riders; but, from the Federal government, the Illinois State government, and Cook County. There will be costs to our Village if we just say, “NO” to bike paths. Maybe in the end we will still want to say, “NO.” Shouldn’t we first learn what is at stake; just what carrots and sticks lie ahead, before we make a decision?
Third, it is my turn to vent:
I am frankly disgusted by the prior uncivilized commenter. One should have a dang good reason to hide behind anonymous comments. I renew my call for reasonable BH Observer moderator intervention against overly vituperative name calling.
It is childish and cowardly to hind behind anonymity with comments like the above. I suspect there would be more self moderation if we who comment were required to identify ourselves.

There is no religion higher than truth; but, we can still be civil!
Well said Jan, now that the former Village President is gone so went the risk of retribution for raising one’s views inopposite to his. In this political climate BHO commentators might consider revealing his or her true identity as “Publius” and others have done. The Reign of Terror is now over; it might be time to take off the mask!
Stand behind your comments with your rightful name even if others may find them offensive. BHO should be commended by all for providing a forum for free political speech and bringing to our attention issues which directly affect VBH. My hope in future BH elections is that residents forego the large donations and insist candidates appear on stage together more than once to discuss/debate the issues most important to them.
Candidates, stop hiding behind mailings and cheap slogans and debate! It is only from this process will we get the best qualified BOT who are independent, experienced and intelligent enough to solve the challenges confronting BH. With the results of the last election we have taken the first step in this direction, but anybody who has attended a Board meeting in recent past knows there is still plenty of work to be done. We can no longer settle for the “team politics” of the past which infected and produced a feckless Board resulting in Millions of Dollars of wastful spending on poor decision making.
Jan, you are also spot on about enouraging discussion and decision making after all the facts are known. Too many times people react reflexively without having or wanting all the facts or even taking the time to educate themselves. Regarding the bicycle path/lane issue, my instinct is to say no, but I will reserve final judgment until I have learned all there is to know about this issue.
BHO readers with information on bike lanes/paths please continue posting and educating us with both the “pros” and the “cons”. One thing I am certain, the bicycles are not going away. “Truth be told” raises a good point under whose authorty did Trustee Meroni, Kosin and Strahan act when in 2012 they prepared and filed with the governmental authority the road plan with bike lanes and at what cost to taxpayers. Good questions to be directed to them,
.

I say spend as many sleepless nights as you wish over my identity. The beauty of this blog is that we can vent without retribution from people such as yourselves or your friends. And you are a fool to think retaliation by members of the board and former jerk at the helm still does not exist. I really do threaten to burst your bubble don’t I?
Tell me Jan – are you disgusted by the unauthorized use of taxpayers monies to have engineering studies done? And we are talking tens of thousands of dollars. But that does not disgust you? Let’s talk about Meroni’s involvement in changing the road designations – you do know it was her? But that does not disgust you?
You make me laugh with your pretense of ‘civility’ and how offended you are.
This whole bike path fiasco was made to look as if our present Mayor and new trustee invented this issue by themselves when in fact it is just another product of the old regime. Another diversion to keep the simple minds busy while the real business at hand goes on – commercial boarding anyone?
Make note of the usage of the two words – simple minds. Carry on.
My Dear “Whole Truth”,
MY, “pretense of ‘civility”?
Some have called me downright “disorderly” and many of my friends know me to be frequently loud and unpleasant in my speech.
I make no pretense of civility. I merely make the effort. I see civility as desirable…a worthy goal to strive toward.
You and I may be closer in our opinions of past wrongs than you know. There have been actions in the past by elected officials that give cause for your suspicion.
I don’t pretend to know the motivation felt by the officials involved in what I will call the “LeCompte Affair”. However, the overly clever way they achieved their goal in the LeCompte Affair and in some lesser events has poisoned the atmosphere in VBH.
I do not shrink from saying this. And I will say it to the very people that I consider to be directly involved and still seek to be friendly with these individuals. I have gotten involved with VBH and watched some of the very people you vilify and that I think on occasion acted, voted, or thought wrongly (or at least differently from me). And I have watched them close up and feel certain they care very much and work very hard for our community.
It is difficult but possible to disagree openly and strongly on some issues and still work together closely and effectively on other issues. Like civility this is a desirable goal but not often achieved.
