An environmental group hopes a call to action asking people to send letters to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opposing the proposed Longmeadow Parkway Fox River Bridge Corridor can sway the agency from granting Kane County permits for the project.
Friends of the Fox is asking for letters of opposition to Kane County Department of Transportation’s proposed four lane, 5.6 mile corridor stretching from Huntley and Boyer roads on the west side of the Fox River to Bolz Road, off Route 25 on the east side of the river.

Concerning LMP, on January 7, 2016, Cal Skinner recently commented on the McHenry County blog saying:
“Of course, a decade or so before, some thought such a bridge should have been built starting about where the Piggly Wiggly now is crossing the river where the slope was much milder at the marina. This was by far the cheapest route. That caused all sorts of turmoil within the Village of Algonquin, resulting in the election of Dana Givot to the County Board. Thereafter, village officials decided it would be better to cross the river at Haeger’s Bend, a much, much more costly location, but lowering the political fallout in Algonquin. Little did that generation of village officials know that the new location would spawn John Schmitt’s entry into the political arena. He is, now, of course, Village President.”

What is interesting about Cal’s comment is that during 2006 or so it was still undecided where LMP would enter and exist into Algonquin yet nothing from VBH BOT concerning the impact LMP would pose to VBH. Where was former VBH President and “Save 5 Acre” majority VBH BOT when location and design of LMP was being tossed about by Algonquin Pres. and BOT.
Did an anticipated run for U.S. Congress by former VBH President and/or former VBH President’s relationship with John Schmitt’s have anything to do with VBH BOT sitting on the sidelines when it came time to approve design and location of LMP through Algonquin and VBH?
What is certain from Cal’s comment is that discussions concerning design and location of LMP were still fluid in 2006. Had VBH government informed VBH residents, VBH could have insisted on having a seat at the LMP bargaining table advocating VBH’s position and concerns regarding design and location of LMP. Had residents known on Algonquin road, they could have prepared more for this highway had they been unable to change opinions.
Instead, It appears VBH was doomed by its own Village leadership! Like so many issues in VBH’s recent history, VBH residents are left with more questions than answers.
Et tu Brute!
VBH will continue to be doomed, because even though leadership has changed tthe mentality of getting information out to residents remains impaired. Even though a resolution has been passed in support of the LMP. Why doesn’t the village care what happens to the future generations who will have support and fund this bridge for decades? Do VBH residents wish fro a bridge that dead ends on Rt62 one of the most dangerous roads within the village limits?
And what becomes of the residents whose homes will border this horrible bridge? Are they being supported? And why not?
Not to mention the quality of life and environmental issues which aren’t being spoken about? All kept under wraps. I think it’s a sorry day when mandates and silly codes dictate common sense and logic.
Residents should be yelling and screaming, instead the village puts a muffler on them and not the planners of this crazy bridge!!
