The Village has released edited audio recordings from the September 11 Zoning Board of Appeals special meeting held at Barrington High School to discuss four horse boarding text amendment proposals. To access the menu of the meeting’s topical audio recording segments, click here.
Anyone who listens to these recordings will quickly realize the sound quality is abysmal. Not only that, many of the board members, and often times the attorney, cannot be heard during the discussion of the Anderson horse boarding amendment.
We assume by now Village Hall staff have a copy of the transcript from the meeting. Anyone interested in obtaining a copy should call the Village Clerk at 847-551-3000 or by email at clerk@barringtonhills-il.gov.
In the strongest possible terms, I urge all of the taxpayers and residents of Barrington Hills to attend the meeting of the Barrington Hills Board of Trustees this coming Monday, September 22. It will likely take place at Countryside School at 6:30 p.m At that meeting, the board will likely vote to adopt an ordinance that will radically expand commercial horse boarding. The outcome is virtually pre-determined. Only vast, dramatic, civic participation by those who oppose the commercialization of our village will potentially stop this impending disaster. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND THIS MEETING AND EXPRESS YOUR VIEWS TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVES. If adopted, this new ordinance will allow the land next to you–every single one of you who reads this post and lives in Barrington Hills–to operate a large commercial barn and interfere with the quiet enjoyment of your property. What’s more, this is the beginning of no doubt years of bitter controversy and the expansion of other businesses into our village. Horse boarding has its place in Barrington Hills, but it must be done by special use and with careful and deliberate planning to preserve the quiet residential character of our village. The proposal that will likely be adopted by the board on Monday night destroys all of this. Please make your opinions known to the board. Please attend and express your views to the officials you have entrusted — they are supposed to be “trustees” — to pursue your best interests. Our roads are in a state of reckless disrepair. There are more houses on the market seeking to flee our village than ever in the history of our community. Our tax bills are escalating. Yet, rather than address these things, the majority of members of the village board are about to ram through an unlawful, destructive ordinance that is completely unnecessary. Find your voice.
In the beginning, when a discussion of horse boarding was mentioned I like many residents, dismissed my participation or interest in the matter, as purely an equestrian based. After reading material, sitting in on board meetings and listening to the issue and the proposals offered; and the arguments for and against, I can assuredly say that no matter has more potential negative ramifications attached to it than this one! I came to this community years ago, looking to enjoy tranquility, nature and the beauty that is our village. If this amendment passes, this village will set a precedent allowing businesses to coexist and operate with residential homeowners in unlimited fashion. No issue since Duda will have the potential to create such all encompassing harm.
Every resident who pays taxes should exercise their civic duty, to express their views on this subject. Anytime, people take an an issue to excess, it is a bad thing. I believe there is a moderate and reasonable proposal that could be crafted.
It will take a deliberate and courageous stance of the village board not to accept this proposal. If the riding trails are in such disrepair, as was mentioned earlier by a resident then perhaps the RCBH should spend more time working on the that matter instead of forcing this amendment through. It will undoubtedly diminish the quality of lives of residents who don’t own horses for years to come., and like Duda it will open the door for other business to lay claim to our village! Please stand up and say NO!
I love horses, however, I don’t love the people who represent them. They brash, insensitive and quite honestly, disinterested in average residents who aren’t horse owners. Therein lies the problem.
Rest assured I will attend, I humbly ask all of you to take the time to show up! It might be the only opportunity you will have to sway the board’s vote and control the destiny of our beloved village!!
