The Village has released recordings from the July 28 Village Board meeting. To access the menu of the meeting’s topical audio recording segments, click here.
Six residents who spoke during public comment were there to voice their concerns once again over bike lanes and reclassifications of Village roads in McHenry County. Surprisingly, one of them who spoke is the mother of the former village president.
It’s a shame the folks living on Haegers Bend, Plum Tree and Spring Creek roads didn’t attend meetings back in 2012, but how could they have known they needed to? Back then, the Village administration did not release documents to be discussed at Village Board meetings prior to meetings for residents to review as is the practice now.
If there had been transparency back then, these concerned residents would have known Resolution 12-18 was to be discussed and approved during the June 25, 2012, Village Board meeting. The resolution was titled:
“A Resolution Approving A Local Match For ‘Certain Street Improvements’ Through The McHenry County Council Of Mayors Surface Transportation Program”
One might ask what “Certain Street Improvements” meant? According to the resolution, it called for “…base course widening and resurfacing improvements to Haeger’s (sic) Bend Road (FAU 3875)” in exchange for 80% funding of the project from the McHenry County Council of Mayors.
The recording of Trustee Patty Meroni’s presentation of the resolution in 2012 can be accessed here. A copy of the resolution signed by the former president can be downloaded here.
Quite interesting. Trustee Meroni spent a great deal of time defender the BOT (her) sponsoring the resolution in 2012.
Given the fact (engineer Dan Straham report) that not one resident on Haeger’s Bend road would permit right of way, it would have been much more efficient if the resident’s to be affected on that road had been queried at that time, rather than 2 years later, only to be unanimously opposed to the road widening, and the whole bicycle lane isssue.

Mr. O’Donnell, Trustee Meroni has never represented the interests of BH residents but continues to represent the interests of the former BH Village President. . . . . . . . There is probably a psychological term to explain Meroni’s unwavering commitment to this irrelevant politician but as a layman, it is beyond my expertise. Perhaps someone trained in the area of psychology might be able to help? As a matter of fact, there are 3 maybe 4 BOT members who suffer from the same affliction.
