Decades after Allstate Insurance Co. pulled up stakes at 51 W. Higgins Rd in South Barrington, new development may be coming to the property that once officed 1,000 employees.
According to the recently posted public hearing notice:
“The public hearing will concern the proposed development of land commonly known as the “Allstate Property” (referred to herein as the “Property”). Petitioner requests the following relief from the South Barrington Zoning Ordinance (“Ordinance”): Amendment to the South Barrington Comprehensive Plan map and text concerning the Allstate Property to recommend uses consistent with Petitioner’s requested use of the Property as identified below; a Map Amendment to rezone the Property from O/R Office Research District to Planned Unit Development District, pursuant Sections 11-4 et seq. of the Zoning Ordinance pertaining to Amendments; a special use pursuant to Sections 6A-3 B and 11-5 et seq. pertaining to special uses to allow office, warehouse, distribution, product processing and data centers… .”
