Village Events, Accolades and News
It’s starting to feel like summer now that the weekly Thursday Night Out event and the Farmers Market are back in downtown Barrington. Speaking of events, the first of our four Metra Lot Concerts is next Friday, June 21, with Dancing Queen – An ABBA Salute. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online. Gather your friends and family to enjoy an outdoor concert under the stars in the Barrington Metra Station’s North Commuter Lot.
I’m very pleased to announce that the Village of Barrington was named a 2023 Gold Level Water Ambassador Community by the Illinois Section of the American Water Works Association (ISAWWA). Barrington is one of only 21 communities in Illinois to hold this distinction. Read more about the Water Ambassador Program and the efforts of our Public Works Department below.
At the June 10 Board of Trustees meeting, I announced the start of the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district process for the “Golden Triangle” area in downtown Barrington. A consulting firm completed an assessment of the approximately 10-acre project area, which includes the approved redevelopment project at 200-300 N. Hough St., determining the area as TIF eligible and approximating development valuations and tax increment allocations. Development of this area has been a priority of the Village for more than twenty years but has been hindered by substantial property consolidation costs and environmental cleanup requirements. Establishing a TIF district will allow future incremental property tax growth generated by the development to reimburse for these and other eligible redevelopment costs. For more information about the approved redevelopment project at 200-300 N. Hough St. and how TIF districts work, visit the Village’s website.
I want to take a moment to acknowledge the recent fire department promotion of Eric Lee to Fire Lieutenant and welcome new firefighter/paramedic, Cameron Dunleavy. Congratulations on your new roles, and thank you for your service to the community.
And finally, I’d like to congratulate Fire Lieutenant Alan (Al) Simonds, who retired this week after 20 years of dedicated service to the Village of Barrington. Thank you, Al, for your unwavering commitment. I wish you all the best for a happy and healthy retirement.
Have a great weekend, and stay cool in the warm temperatures expected next week.
