The Barrington fire and police departments switched its emergency dispatch service provider this summer, a move that officials said enhances the departments’ technology and puts the village with the same vendor as other area municipalities.
Northwest Central Dispatch System began handling emergency 911 dispatching services for the Barrington’s emergency response departments on June 1.
According to police Chief Dave Dorn, the search for a new dispatch center began more than a year ago and included reviewing three possibilities before the Village Board approved switching to Arlington Heights-based Northwest Central Dispatch System last October.
Northwest Central Dispatch System also provides 911 services for police and fire departments in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and Streamwood, and for the police departments in Inverness and Prospect Heights.
“One of the biggest things was efficiency and working with our neighbors. The majority of our neighboring communities that we work with on a daily basis were already at Northwest Central,” Barrington fire Chief John Christian told Pioneer Press.
