Martin J. McLaughlin
It’s not every elected official who can state unequivocally that he delivered on every campaign promise, but Martin McLaughlin can record his accomplishments in black and white — budget, spending and tax levy all reduced; settlement of labor issues and an unbelievably long-standing civil suit with Sears; efficiencies gained through consolidation of functions and resources and a variety of achievements aimed at maintaining the town’s rural charm; and building a greater sense of community. We didn’t endorse McLaughlin in his first bid for village president, but we can’t argue with the results on the balance sheet of his first term.
The full Daily Herald Editorial Board endorsement can be read here.
I love this part of the article :
“Iocavelli offers some VAGUE complaints about government transparency and property rights violations, but IS NOT CLEAR OR DETAILED in describing either the problems or the solutions… but HE DOESN”T SUGGEST THE CAPACITY TO OUTPERFORM the current administration in maintaining the village’s stability and quality of life.”
BOOM!
And judging from their most recent mailer, he doesn’t suggest the capacity to be truthful either.
So thankful for Marty and Colleen’s competent leadership and generous time on behalf of our Village
Like many others, I was suspicious of this unknown “new comer” to VBH government and politics 4 years ago. He emerged on the VBH political scene with hollow promises of reform, unification, cost reductions and adherence to the rule of law. A candidate which the Silent One’s “Save 5 Acres” politcal team often referred to as an “interloper” and “vagabond”. Not a Barrington “blue blood” you know but a transplant from St. Charles, IL of all places. . . .
4 years later, I am suspicious “no more”; when Pres McLaughln makes a promise, he actually keeps it. Do not take my word for it, take a look at VBH audited financials for each year which are published on line.Compare the record of levies, taxation and expenditures by McLaughlin and Konicek during their 4 year tenure in VBH to former VBH President and his chosen Silent One.
Not only have McLaughlin and Konicek decreased the annual levy, budgets and expenditures by a large sum of money but they have increased VBH cash reserves to historicle high levels of more than 4 Million Dollars erasing the shamefully record low levels maintained by spendthrift former VBH President and former BOT member, the Silent One.
Other than certain members of the radical commercial equestrian fringe,; no more village lawsuits costing VBH taxpayers Millions of Dollars with nothing to show in return. Dignity has been restored to VBH government and commissions who are now allowed to operate independently without interference or direction from the top. In other words, a highly functional village government which serves all VBH residents equally under the law at a much more affordable price irrespective of his or her local political affilation or record of campaign donations.
By DH comparing the experience of the Silent One to the experience of Konicek is liking comparing shareholder experience with Enron versus Exxon. The Silent One certainly has VBH BOT experience; but not the type of experience which lends itself to “fiscally responsible” or “trustworthy” municipal government.
Let’s hand former VBH President another defeat this April by not electing his Silent One. VBH taxpayers and those who believe in adherence to the “rule of law” and “cost efficient government” can no longer afford the type of experience the Silent One brings to VBH government!
