A Richmond man is accused of beating a man in the face with a metal pipe, leaving him with serious facial injuries, after finding him with his estranged wife in Barrington Hills, then fighting officers who tracked him down, prosecutors said.
James R. Garrett, 38, of Richmond, was charged with one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, a Class 3 felony, and one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer, a Class 2 felony, along with two counts of resisting a peace officer causing injury, which are Class 4 felonies.
Garrett went to a location in Barrington Hills on October 11 and found his soon-to-be ex-wife there with another man, McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Theodore J. Smith III said in court.
Garrett allegedly struck the man with a metal pipe on the left side of his face around 8:42 p.m., causing multiple lacerations and bruising, a nasal bone fracture and a nasal bridge fracture, according to a criminal complaint.
The man also had bruising on the right side of his back, a scratch on his left forearm and a laceration on his left shin, the complaint said.
Smith said Garrett hit the man several times and the man was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Officers were also concerned the man may have suffered a broken orbital bone on the left side of his face, Smith said.
