The year I graduated the ceremony was held in the BHS gymnasium with no air conditioning. Matter of fact the entire school was un-air conditioned. A few soon-to-be graduates would do burnouts to celebrate outside the school entrance. SAT and ACT tests weren’t watered down, and most of those leaving tire tracks at the school entrance went on to be very successful. Too bad the snowflakes appear to be winning lately with calls for lowering proficiency standards (AGAIN!).
There aren’t enough seats in the gymnasium to fit everyone who attends the graduation, including the graduates. The 8th grade graduations are held in the high school gym and barely fit the graduates and audience (and there still is no air conditioning). In the 80’s the high school graduations were held at Poplar Creek because the gym was too small. Other high schools, such as Libertyville, go out to the Sears Center for graduation because there is not room for them in their high school gym. It’s the price of growth. There are plenty of decent, hardworking kids graduating from BHS this year. Some are joining the military, others going to trade schools, and others on to higher education. Many actively participated in charitable organizations through their time at BHS. I look forward to seeing their continued contributions to society. Congratulations to the Class of 2025!
My comments are based on first-hand experience. Yours is opinion based and demonstrates your ignorance on the subject. Pre-1980 BHS grads will corroborate this.
Statistics are facts and corroborate that the class size has grown since pre-1980. I’ve attended graduations of 8th grade and high school in each decade of the 80’s to the present. Poplar Creek wasn’t air conditioned, it was just large enough to hold everyone. Barrington HS gym still isn’t air conditioned, yet the 8th grade classes still hold their graduations there. The problem at BHS is not the students, it’s the electorate that fails to come out and vote in local elections and leaves us with a school board of DEI leftists.
Also, the three worst offenders on the school board are likely Boomers, so thanks for that.
