Route 59 closed between Route 68 and Dundee Lane due to accident and Haz Mat response

This morning, there was a truck crash on Route 59 in Barrington Hills which has resulted in closure of the road and has caused significant traffic delays.  Motorists are advised to avoid the area completely.  A tractor trailer slid off of a construction paving zone, and landed in a wooded area.  The truck’s fuel tanks were ruptured and approximately 125 gallons of diesel fuel has been spilled into an adjacent lake.

The Fire Department, Hazardous Materials Units, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Homeland Security have responded to the incident and are on-site assisting with environmental clean-up and traffic re-routing.  The Village of Barrington Hills notified residents of the closure via its reverse-911 system and will announce the reopening of the road when the scene is clear.
