Everyone knows this time of year in early spring the weather can be dramatically different from one day to the next. One day you can have your window open to let in fresh air and another we’re covering budding plants to protect them from frost, so consider voting early this year when the weather’s favorable.
Early voting is still an option for Barrington Hills voters through this Saturday, April 7th. We’d like to remind readers that two years ago, about ten votes made the difference between candidates winning or losing a seat on our Village Board, so every vote counts.
Polling locations closest to Barrington Hills are listed below. Click on the county you live in for more information including hours and other locations to vote:

SOS it is not Carpentersville which threatens 5 Acre Residential Zoning in VBH but SOS supported Anderson II Horse Boarding Amendment . . . .
SOS Knoop has reached deep into the tired ole “Save 5 Acres” playbook of horses providing the rational for 5-Acre Zoning (R-1) in VBH and the video tape of the boarder of Carpentersville threatening VBH could look like that. (yawn. . . cackle). . . THE ZONE BUSTING 5 ACRE BOOGYMAN AGAIN!
As a lawyer with experience in land use, zoning and real estate, the rational behind R-1 5 acre residential zoning is found in VBH Code and in every R-1 deed to the property. These covenants in the individual deed run with the land failing to mention horses or equestrian lifestyle. Why is that if horses are so critical to 5-acre residential zoning? Answer: Because they are not. THE KNOOP BOOGYMAN!
No rational is required at law to explain why a municipality has minimum zoning requirments except to say that is the way it is designed. Before VBH zoning code landowners beginning along Brinker Road entered into mutual minimum 5 acre covenant restrictions with adjacent property owners which no doubt was motivated by mutual equestrian pursuits as a hobby not a business. These mutual covenants running with the land were eventually codified into VBH code given the designation R-1 (5-acre residential zoning) with no mention of horses.
To protect these 5 acre zoned lots, VBH BOT convinced former town of Middlebury, unincorporated areas of Paganica, Ashbury and properties on VBH eastern border (yes less than 5-acre zoned lots) to annex into VBH to provide a protective shell around the 5-acre residential lot “yoke”. [When I helped prepare the VBH Comprehensive Plan as a member of the VBH Plan Commission I spent many hours researching history VBH zoning and land use strategies].
Skilled land use practitioners call this “transitional zoning” but SOS BOOGYMAN KNOOP calls it “feathering” and will engage in character assassination of anyone who even utters the “F” word in public. Due to the creation of the 5 ACRE ZONE BUSTING BOOGYMAN BY SOS/SAVE 5 ACRES KNOOP, today, members of village government cannot have intelligent conversation for fear of of being labeled a “FEATHERER” or sympathetic to “DEVELOPERS”!
Horses are a wonderful attribute to VBH and one of God’s beautiful earthly creations, but horses do not provide legal justification for 5 acre zoning in VBH, the Village Code and Covenants imbedded in our deeds do that. Horses are often just the beneficiary of this amenity along with us, the residents of VBH.
What SOS candidates and SOS Knoop fail to inform VBH voters is the greatest threat to 5-Acre (R-1) residential zoning is Anderson II horse boarding amendment which turns floor area ratio requirements (“FAR”) in VBH code on its head no longer requiring the residence be the primary structure instead allowing commercial barn structures to assume this role paving the way on 5 acre zoned lots for +10,000 sq/ft commercial structures with modular or trailer home with foundation, water and septic.
The FAR requirements under R-1 residential zoning are the heart of VBH Code which has served VBH for more than 50 years and is the primary reason VBH looks the way it does today, Estate homes on minimum 5 acres. Anderson II gutted that very section of VBH code which defines our character. Incredibly SOS candidates Meroni and Selman not only remain “mum” on the subject but voted in support of this miguided ordinance overturning 50 years of successful zoning practice.
