While the Cook County Forest Preserve has not yet revealed plans for its recently acquired Horizon Farms, a conservation easement placed on the property more than 10 years ago already ensured the land was protected from development.
The roughly 400-acre horse farm in Barrington Hills, which was purchased earlier this month for $14.5 million, is the largest single land acquisition made by the Cook County Forest Preserve District in decades. The property, 311 Algonquin Road, had been in foreclosure since last August, forest preserve officials said.
