The Barrington Hills Village Board, embroiled in controversy over the so-called dark-sky proposal and other issues, will have new faces after the April 5 election since two incumbents are not seeking re-election.
Walter E. Smithe and Steve Knoop are bowing out. Beth Mallen is running again, as is Joseph Messer, who was appointed to the board by Village President Robert Abboud after trustee Peter Wessel died about six months after being elected in 2009. Village Clerk Karen Selman also filed for re-election.
