ComEd works with resident to protect threatened orchids in Barrington Hills

For years, June Keibler has nurtured the threatened eastern prairie fringed orchids within a ComEd-owned property in Barrington Hills with few complications until an unknown number of vehicles destroyed some of the orchids last year.

About four or five times each year, Keibler, who lives in the Carpentersville area, drives along a road through Helm Woods Forest Preserve to hand pollinate the delicate, white blossom orchids underneath electric transmission towers operated by ComEd.
