The fourth annual Barrington Honor Ride and Run event will take place this Sunday, August 17th. This event raises funds to support healing veterans at military and VA locations throughout the country.
This year, organizers have made a few changes. The bicycle and running races will begin and end at Citizen’s Park in Barrington, and the bicycle events begin earlier kicking off at 7:15 AM.
A portion of the bicycle routes involve Barrington Hills’ scenic roads as depicted in the map below:
These Village roads will not be closed during the event, though there may be infrequent traffic stops to allow racers to proceed through intersections. It’s estimated the participants will be on Village roads starting at 7:30 AM and most should have left the Village by 9:00 AM.
Considering that many who participate this charitable event are veterans (some of whom are disabled) supporting their fellow veterans’ recoveries, The Observer requests that our readers honor them as they pass swiftly through our roadways.
If you have a sign on your property similar to the one at left protesting what our Roads and Bridges Committee had been planning for some Village roads, we humbly request that you temporarily remove them for the event, and instead, display an American flag if you have one. After all, these riders have been welcomed by our Village Board via a unanimous resolution, and as such, should be considered guests riding for a worthy cause in our minds.
Furthermore, we ask that any residence along the race route honor our veterans by displaying the flag on Sunday to express their appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices for our country.
Registration for the Honor Ride & Run is still open. For complete information on the event, including a race and obstacle course for kids as well as family entertainment, click here.
Observer, classy touch with your request. American Flags for our vets is a good idea for the Honor Ride. The bike debate can be saved for another day.
I agree 100% with you Richard Saunders. Honestly, why are the signs still up? Meroni withdrew her bike path project at July’s Board meeting. The issue is over. Move on.
God Bless America and God Bless our Veterans!
I am hopeful former BH President will take a break from politics this weekend and immediately issue a statement to subscribers of his “stop bicycle paths in BH blog” asking membership to consider removing their “No Bicycle Path” signs just for this week-end.
It is the patriotic thing to do. The RGA blog owner can resume slaying windmills next week.

Let it Go..let it Go!
As the host suburb for the Barrington honor ride/run; it would be in very bad taste to advertise an opposition to bikers with the anti-bike lane signs! Remember, that this weekend.. We are welcoming people into our village for the sole purpose of participation in this glorious event. Time to reflect and recognize that this weekend is to honor veterans and their sacrifices!!!
Please remove the signs. Actually, the bike lane issue is over, time to step back now and focus on something else that needs our attention.
