The 2022 McHenry Outdoor movie season will go out on a spooktacular note Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29.
With bounce houses, kids’ games, prizes, giveaways, a pumpkin-decorating station and screenings of two films especially befitting the season of ghouls, the weekend’s thrills are sure to delight all who dare to attend.
The nights’ movies are the 1995 family fun hit “Casper,” featuring a young Christina Ricci, and the brand new “Halloween Ends,” the much-anticipated final installment in the spine-chilling slasher franchise that first frightened moviegoers in 1978.
Scott Dehn, who owns the theater at the southeast corner of Lincoln and Chapel Hill Roads, said the evenings’ festivities will entertain guests of all ages. The box office will open at 5:30 p.m. The first film, “Casper,” will begin at 7:30 p.m., with “Halloween Ends” to follow “after the little ones fall asleep,” he said.
In addition, on Friday, Oct. 28, The Bridgeport Ramblers are scheduled to perform their special blend of Irish folk music, pub rock and vintage country before the first movie starts.
“We will have free popcorn and a goody bag for any child dressed in costume,” Dehn added. “It’s going to be a super fun night in celebration of another terrific and successful season.”
Along with free, Halloween-themed games, there also will be a $5 pumpkin-decorating area. Participants will receive a Harms Farm pumpkin to paint or decorate with stickers and other artsy-craftsy items. Bounce house entry will cost $5 for two 10-minute sessions.
Those who stay until the chilling end will see Jamie Lee Curtis reprise her role as Laurie Strode in the grand finale of a franchise that has been prompting audiences to peek through trembling fingers during six films over the last 44 years.
Admission to the McHenry Outdoor is $12, $6 for military, and seniors as well as children ages 3 to 11, and free for those younger than 3.
