Village Board of Trustees meets Monday

The Village Board of Trustees will be conducting their monthly meeting Monday evening at 6:30 PM.  Some of the topics on their agenda include:

Why disappointing you may ask?  Because for the third month in a row this administration has failed to step up publicly to address a clear conflict of interest existing at our Village Hall. Matter of fact, there isn’t even a place on the agenda to report what was discussed at the specifically nonspecific Personal Committee meeting held Monday.

Residents deserve better.

Personnel Committee meets today

The Village Personnel Committee meets this afternoon at 5:00 PM.  Topics on their agenda include:

  • Transition of Treasurer
  • Additional Staffing, and
  • As Presented

“Transition of Treasurer,” likely means the current Village Treasurer, Peggy Hirsch, will be leaving, and that would be a tremendous loss if that’s the case.

“As Presented,” is an item we’ve only seen recently used on the Equestrian Commission agendas.  As near as we can tell, it means, “undecided as of agenda posting deadline,” “none of your damn business” or it’s, “anything can happen Monday.”

FRVHHHCome join the fun! Riders of all disciplines are welcome! Ride through the beautiful Spring Lake Forest Preserve on a predetermined course.

Jumpers & non-jumpers will both enjoy the challenge of matching the pace time. Ribbons awarded 1st thru 6th place. Plan your team of 2-5 riders (at least 1 adult per team). All riders are required to wear an ASTM/SEI certified helmet. Proof of negative coggins required.

Luncheon generously sponsored by Pizzo and Associates Ltd. – creator of naturally beautiful land and water solutions. After the hunter pace, during lunch, learn more about restoring nature and habitat, where you work and play.

Barrington Area Conservation Trust celebrates it’s 20th anniversary at Tartans for the Trust!

The Celtic spirit will fill the air on August 28 from 3PM until 7PM at the Barrington Hills Park District Riding Center. Bagpipes will sound as we kick off the festivities, Pat McKillan will be performing and there will be games and activities planned for people of all ages.

Kids will enjoy mini versions of the Highland games from the caber toss to miniature golf and tug-o-war. For the Lords and Ladies — Scotch/WhiskeyTasting, Men in Kilts contest, and Haggis Hurling to name a few.

Bring chairs, a blanket and a Ravinia basket (or purchase food from our food truck) and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon in a beautiful setting.

Village Hall Entrance

The Village Board of Trustees met last Monday evening, and one person stated the following during public comment:

“My name is (name).  I live at (address). I’ve been a resident of Barrington Hills for eighteen years.  I’m the Deputy Clerk and I also sit on the Plan Commission.

I’m here tonight to express my opinion that I think it’s inappropriate to have a family member of an employee (Building Department) that’s a spouse of the Village President. I believe the situation doesn’t reflect favorably on the Village of Barrington Hills. I think it exposes us to criticism, conflict of interest, favoritism, nepotism – any number of words that you can come up with.

In my opinion, no Village employee should be related to any of the Trustees. I think that’s best. I think just the situation in this particular situation – because it’s the Village President and his spouse – it just accentuates it a little more as a potential conflict of interest, so, that’s my comment.”

We applaud this resident for coming forward and voicing what others believe, and we agree.

Biden to visit Crystal Lake Wednesday

President Joe Biden will visit the northwestern suburb of Crystal Lake next week, a White House official told NBC 5.

Seth Schuster, a regional communications director at the White House, confirmed the visit, but didn’t provide details, including a reason for the trip or where exactly the president would stop.

The president has made two other recent visits in the Midwest.

Biden traveled to Traverse City, Michigan Saturday as part of an effort to highlight the nation’s progress against COVID-19 and promote the infrastructure plan he negotiated with a group of senators. Last week, the president toured a La Crosse, Wisconsin transit facility and delivered remarks on the infrastructure deal.

“The Village of Barrington Hills would like you to be aware of a 5K run, sponsored by the Village and Cuba Township, which is occurring tomorrow, Saturday, July 3rd, at 7:30 AM.

The route includes a portion of Cuba Road west of the Township offices, all of Buckley Road and a portion of Oak Knoll Road east of Buckley. Residents are encouraged to avoid these roadways until 9AM, if possible, as traffic delays are likely to be encountered.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day!”
