A resident’s appeal for Barrington to officially fly a gay pride flag in the village in June drew a response from only three trustees at a recent Village Board meeting, with no further discussion made by the board or the village president.
When she addressed during the public comment portion of the March 28 board meeting, resident Barbara Pintozzi suggested flying the rainbow-colored flag – a symbol used in the LGBTQ+ community – during gay pride month in June, as a public show of inclusivity and support.
“I’m here about the hate crime at the high school,” Pintozzi said, referring to an incident March 16 where two Barrington High School students who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community were allegedly targeted in a pellet gun shooting on campus.
Officials believe the students were allegedly targeted as part of a TikTok social media challenge. Another student was later charged with disorderly conduct and battery for the attack, which happened in the school parking lot.
“We say that’s not who we are in Barrington,” Pintozzi said. “I’m sorry, but that’s who some of us are in Barrington. If we don’t want to be the kind of town where this happens, we need to do something as a community. … We need to stand up and say, enough, we are against hate and we support all of our LGBTQ kids.”
Three board members expressed their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

That flag is not a legal flag representing our country! That would be like a certain group which is not represented by our citizens . This was put out to cause disruption to our innocent children. No, this flag is representing a small group, not a majority.
Obviously this is another leftist overreaction to a high school prank gone wrong. By all means…let’s criminalize minors and label them for life over a stupid prank – all because the recipient just happened to be a “transgender”.
