Per the BHPD:
“Calling ALL VBH Volunteers for a Teasel Attack at both the Horizon Farm Forest Preserve and the Forest Preserve at the SE Corner of Bateman Road and route 62 on Saturday, June 5th. We meet at the ‘Hunt House’ (small grey house at the north end of the Barrinton Hills Park District property and park anywhere you find a spot) at 9:15am. Instruction will be given before we depart with my designated “Drivers” at 9:30 am SHARP.
Both targeted fields used to be outstanding places for equine riding enjoyment and can be again if we can stop the Teasel and other obvious invasive from spreading any further! THIS IS THE YEAR to eradicate before the Teasel spreads any further along route 62. The wind from traffic and the IDOT cuttings forward the seeds more every year and it is now along every major highway in the northwest suburbs.
Cook County Forest Preserve has given unprecedented permission for us to have June 5th as our workday. You will want to wear sturdy shoes, protective pants (jeans preferable), and a shirt material that won’t collect burr seeds on it. Bring a pair of loppers, heavy or plasticized work gloves, and if possible heavy duty snippers. Those seed heads are going to have some stray seeds & we won’t want any to fall to the ground. Safety vests & bags will be provided for carefully snipping the seed heads and any berries directly into. We can leave canes and debris stacked in the open for nature to reclaim the vitamins. Wear sunscreen and consider wearing a full, wide-brimmed hat to ward off ticks.
Jimmy John’s subs will be provided to your work spot if we haven’t finished by shortly after twelve. If we have finished, you can grab & go with your Driver back to your car. Please bring your own water!
The Rain Date will be on June 6th, same time.
I need to know in advance who plans to attend in order to share important updates so please TEXT me with your name and cell # ASAP: 847-381-9487 ~. Feel free to share this info and encourage your friends and neighbors to participate; it’s a good way to meet others. Non-Residents are definitely WELCOME!!! P DENISE ISRAEL”
