Federal pandemic unemployment benefits will expire in September. Several businesses are struggling to find candidates to fill open jobs.
Data shows many in the unemployment line still have lingering concerns about child care and their own safety. But now some Republicans are arguing the extra jobless benefit keeps people from actively seeking work.
“They’ve got great jobs available at living wages and limited to no applicants. Why? Maybe we should never stop monetizing our debt. Maybe we should completely ignore the immutable laws of economics. How about $10 trillion more in spending? $50 trillion? $100 trillion? Or, perhaps $380 trillion and we can make every man, woman and child – including illegal aliens – instant millionaires. It could be like a big Oprah show…you’re a millionaire…and you’re a millionaire…and you’re a millionaire!
Marty, are the jobs so “great” if that little temporary bump in small benefits makes the difference? Anybody out there getting rich who wasn’t already rich? I’m not seeing them. And there are no “immutable laws of economics. Only ideas. And only some of them have any proof to support them.
