It has come to our attention that a Guest Essay published yesterday (see “Important considerations before voting for 220 Board”) contained errors. Last night we received an email stating, “I am Jackie McGrath, but I am not on the IEA IPACE Executive Committee and never have been. I am not an active member of the IEA.”
She goes on to state, “I am a LWVPA member but I am not a forum organizer. I took no part in the Barrington 220 forum and the Barrington Area Library forum.”
Were I a candidate for the school board, I WOULD TALK TO TEACHERS and their union. I would emphasize the importance of teachers and any other ideas I had that I thought would please them. However, I WOULD DECLINE A TEACHER’S UNION ENDORSEMENT as I believe it is inappropriate for a person running for the school board to allow even the appearance of being beholding to a particular special interest group. A position on the school board is a position of trust that requires fidelity to the best interests of ALL OF OUR SCHOOL’S CONSTITUENTS: students, parents, teachers, support staff and all taxpaying members of the community at large.
