The Barrington Education Association (BEA), the teachers union for D220, has been very vocal publishing social media posts, emails, and flyers supporting their four endorsed candidates for school board election. Beyond being vocal in support they have been extremely vocal in criticizing the three candidates (Katie Karam, Steve Wang and Malgorzata McGonigal) who chose not to meet with them to seek a union endorsement, nor to meet with an organization called Be the Change Barrington (BTC).
Who is BTC? They have a website that lists various positions and recommendations for the administration and education of students in D220. However, nothing on these pages identifies who exactly they are, who they are accountable to, where they live, or even if they are residents of D220.
Their list of recommendations (more accurately demands) is a platitude of critical race theory, alleging widespread racism and social injustice within D220. However, from police sources, there is little evidence of hate crime within our district. So what are these recommendations based on?
Apparently, a survey of around 600 alumni and active students. The survey does not break down the percentage of alumni to current students, nor does it identify whether any of these alumni are currently living within D220, parents of students, or taxpaying members of our community. Yet, the BEA has crowned them as an important representative voice of D220 and has lambasted and shamed the three candidates who chose not to meet with these unidentified individuals.
Why should you care? To follow are some of the recommendations of BTC for your children:
“BTCB calls on Barrington 220 to critically examine and make changes to its staff training, curriculum requirements, and administrative policies in the pursuit of anti-racism and dismantling white supremacy.”
“All educators and students must undergo a mandatory anti-racism training and unconscious bias training. Anti-racist and unconscious bias training is necessary for supporting the multiracial, multilingual, and multicultural student body within Barrington 220.”
“Barrington 220 must play an active role in challenging the myths of colorblindness and meritocracy within the education system, and instead commit to practicing anti-racism, anti-bias, and equity. In order for training sessions to be sustainable and meaningful, they must go beyond the intellectual work of fighting oppression and challenge staff and students to do the deeply personal, emotional, and communal work of dismantling racism and white supremacy culture.”
The list is much broader and can be found at this ink: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N9DdAepfjRtjNjhA0UMddGkrXMFfNHU-/view
These recommendations have been cited by the BEA and its four endorsed candidates as important lesson plans and discussions that your children should be given in their D220 education.
The BEA has a lobbyist group (iPACE) that sends out mail pieces, i.e. “in-kind” donations, on behalf of the four candidates endorsed by the BEA and also provides monetary donations to those candidates. Recently, the Palatine League of Women Voters (LWV) hosted several Candidate forums, including forums for school board candidates and library board.
For a group that claims to be “non-partisan“, the BEA through its lobbyists, iPACE, has donated significantly to Democratic candidates, including $52,800 in 2019 to former Speaker Michael Madigan.
Also, LWV was outspoken in a recent Herald article surrounding Karam, Wang & McGonigal, for school board and Croll, Ordway & Stenberg for library board: “A partisan political group in Barrington has expressed support for candidates in school and library board races, a move criticized by the League of Women Voters, which says party politics has no place in local elections…”
Wow! Pot? Kettle? Sounds like the BEA and LWV need to take a long look in the mirror.
So, in what conceivable way can the LWV forum have been considered non-partisan under these circumstances? Particularly where the BEA, which pays dues to IEA and iPACE, started a full court press on endorsements and social media posts supporting Ding, Klauer, Ficke-Bradford, and Mitoraj by February 6th, a month prior to the LWV forum, and iPACE had already made donations to Ding which she stated she used for signs and mailers (mailers that coincidentally didn’t include campaign disclosure information as required by SBOE).
There is a lot of ugly going on around the D220 community.
The BEA is flexing its union muscle and it wants to con you into voting Ding, Klauer, Ficke-Bradford, and Mitoraj. They even went so far as condescending to come back to full time school the week before the April 6th election. Why? Because they want their handpicked four to be elected and vote the BEA union byline.
Make no mistake, D220 families; if Ding, Klauer, Ficke-Bradford, and Mitoraj are elected to the school board on April 6th your kids will be back to e-learning and remote school on April 7th.
If you want a board that will advocate on behalf of your children, tax dollars and community, it is imperative that you VOTE KARAM, WANG, & McGONIGAL for school board.
– Guest essay
Social Justice is a euphemism for social engineering. Something is either just or unjust, you do not need an adjective to describe it. What is driving this agenda is not inalienable rights and meritocracy but collectivism and balkanization so in the end minority interest can rule a majority.
There is a historical model for this, “Maoism” and a historical moment, “The cultural revolution”. If we allow these radicals to continue to go unchecked in our School District and in this country, we will in the end have a Maoist Cultural Revolution of our own.
Our schools are already becoming re-education camps of sorts undermining traditional American values of God, Country and family, where masculinity is deemed toxic and skin color a class of supremacy. We must reclaim our schools and rid this poison from our community. The most effective path to achieving this is school choice but in the meantime, elect those to school boards who share majority view in our community.
If nothing else, parents in this district need to have a clear understanding of what agendas are being pushed and an opportunity to decide whether they want this type of “education” for their children. There should be more transparency on the D220 website with curriculum and the manner in which teachers are evaluated. It is unfortunate that the BEA and League of Women voters have infiltrated these elections and caused people to call into question the motives of candidates. The recent article in the Herald with the quote from them was beyond unprofessional.
It looks as though plenty of information in this article is freely available on the internet to anyone who want to research it:

Commenter “Internet search”, thanks for taking the time to confirm that part of the essay.
It really bothers me that the piece is anonymous since the bulk of it was “Who is ‘Be the Change Barrington’ really? And how do we even know they live here?” I kept thinking well, the same could be said for the author of this! And at least I read the new Director of Diversity is working with that group, so I don’t think it’s some sort of cabal of ex-BHS students living in far-flung places.
The whole thing reads like an attack ad for Karem, Wang and McGonigal and it’s a huge turn-off.
I am Jackie McGrath. I am a Barrington resident and a member of the League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area. However, this article is filled with misinformation about me. I am NOT nor ever have been on the IPACE Executive Board of the IEA and am not a lobbyist. It is just a coincidence that there is a Jackie McGrath who is an English Professor at COD who serves on this Board. In addition, I did not organize the LWVPA candidate forums. The guest writer of this article did not fact check and needs to print a retraction.
You’re in the no spin zone, BEA.
The article said no evidence of “widespread“ hate crimes. You came up with one very sad incident. Thanks for proving the point.
People are to know who is behind BTC because some former students came to speak before the board? But, why isn’t any person identified on their materials? Again, the article states that there’s no information as to who they are accountable to, where they live and if they’re residents of D220. Again, you proved the point.
No spin, BEA. The article indicates that your lobbying group iPACE, not the BEA, makes donations to candidates on your behalf, and you admit it.
The BEA isn’t responsible for keeping kids out of school? Did you forget BEA President Melissa Atteberry’s letter was distributed publicly where you urge members to take FMLA and admit your attorney was advising you to stop pushing back and get to back in school: “Last time I talked to the IEA lawyer, she told us we are in the business of educating kids and that we can’t keep pushing back.
We have to try to find a way to make the hybrid work…”
Criticism of candidates absolutely occurred when you called them out for not meeting with you or Be the Change as you continued to do in your mythology piece. Shame on you.
Hey! My name is Kalina Pierga, and I’m the Policy Change Committee Head for Be The Change Barrington. I graduated BHS in 2019, and I did in fact hold residency in Barrington. It appears as though those asserting some insidious version of “BTCB anonymity” did not attend our live zoom info sessions or view our social media platforms, where BTCB execs have introduced ourselves and described our relationship with the Barrington community. Please head to those resources to resolve any further uncertainties!
Kalina,
How much in property taxes did you personally pay while a resident in Barrington? Until that time comes we hope you enjoyed the benefits of the schools we as taxpaying residents provided for you. You’re welcome! However you are not welcome to attempt to change our communities character and culture through your organizations leftist agenda which we are certain has been taught to you by many of the union card carrying “educators” within our fine 220 camps…..oops schools.
Hi Dennis,
I do not wish to engage in petty internet debate, especially one in which the tax-paying abilities of a minor (<18 years of age, a student at BSD 220 schools) is posited as qualification for seeking to improve the communities and learning environments with which they engage.
Regardless, I urge you and all those reading these comments to repeat this conversation back, slowly: BTCB seeks to work against racism. BTCB seeks to improve conditions for all students in all BSD 220 schools. To claim that this is a partisan attack on existing community culture would inherently admit that there exists permissibility, albeit comfortable acceptance, of racism, discrimination, and harmful environments for certain classes of BSD 220 constituents. (Should we choose to engage with a utilitarian lens that accounts for taxpayer benefit, these conditions disparately and directly harm certain groups of hardworking, taxpaying members of the Barrington community. We can all agree that identity-based harassment against students is bad.) If you would like more information on the aforementioned conditions, I eagerly direct you to our studies of the climate in BSD 220 schools, as well as the first-hand student testimony platform, @dearbarrington on Instagram. BTCB is happy to engage with our fellow community members— please feel free to reach out to us on any of our social media platforms to resolve any further misconceptions.

Welcome to the team!
Ms. Pierga ~ Thank you for the information on your involvement with Be the Change. Yours is the first name I’ve seen associated with it as I did not get a zoom invitation to meet the execs of your group. I also looked on your Facebook and don’t see that any execs (or actual people) are identified. I’m not sure the inquiry is intended to be insidious. If you are a legitimate organization, who are the members? Who do the members report to? Do you have 501c3 status? These are legitimate questions. I did search the IRS for the not for profit ‘Be the Change Barrington’ and ‘BTCB’ and came up with nothing. The ‘Be the Change Coalition’ doesn’t show you as a school in their group, and the Crystal Lake organization shows they’ve terminated. After being introduced to an actual person in your group for the first time here, and not being able to find any other identifying information, I’m hoping you can direct me to something. Thank you.
Good morning M Crowe. My name is Grant Elliott (BHS class of 2016) and I am one of the co-founders and current Public Relations Head of Be The Change Barrington. I would be more than happy to answer the questions you listed here, as well as any others that may come up. Please send us an email at bethechangebarrington@gmail.com and we can set up a time to chat in more detail.
Grant – Thank you for your response and offer. I have looked through all the materials that are posted on your linktree link from your Instagram page and feel I have a good grasp of your objectives. What I don’t know is what I asked above of Ms. Pierga: Who are your members? Who do you report to? Are you a 501c3 organization? Thank you.
More support for what’s contained in this post in this excerpt from Herald article yesterday. Apparently League of Women Voters Palatine only likes to be critical of candidates in the Barrington elections and not those in their own back yard.
“Vicki Martin, co-president of the League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area, said her organization hasn’t heard of or taken any position on partisan involvement in the District 211 race.
But the league chapter previously responded to concerns that the Barrington Township Republican Organization and a political action committee called ACTION, or ‘Advancing Change Together In Our Neighborhood,’ were supporting candidates for the Barrington Area Library, Barrington Area Unit School District 220 and Harper College boards.
In reference to the Barrington races, Martin called the practice a bad precedent.
‘When party politics become part of our local government, it directly impacts the way residents choose who they vote for,’ she said at the time. ‘Voters will be influenced by party affiliation, instead of figuring out who the best candidate is for the job.’
But on Monday, Martin suggested that the league chapter’s position on those Barrington-area concerns might need to be re-examined, given the comments by the state board of elections.”
Interesting that this is an issue only for party politics with the League. What do they have to say about the teachers union getting involved and trying to influence instead of letting voters figure out who the best candidate is for the job?
The question is now abundantly clear. Will we – as a nation – continue to allow the moral degradation and foundational destruction of a malleable/postmodern/progressive (everything is relative and there are no facts) constitution originating in the 1930s and coming of age in the 1960s, or will we stand for the nation with God as originally constituted defending the individual inalienable rights and freedoms granted therein and a smaller, financially solvent federal government? The battle lines are – and have been for decades – really over these two very distinct constitutions.
Crackpot racist theories like critical race and white privilege concocted at our now almost completely imbecilic “elite” universities by anti-American communist leaning faculty to justify substandard performance and the totally failed 55-year old, $22 trillion welfare state do nothing to solve actual problems but do accomplish their goal of further dividing the nation. We have now devolved to a nation of regime rule administered by a permanent unelected bureaucratic state enacting unpopular policies that are designed to for the politically powerful to grow in power and the financial benefit their controlling oligarchs, rather than a nation governed by the people enacting policies that are good for the citizenry. All of this is propagandized by compliant corporate media whose role has perverted from holding the powerful accountable to now activists for left-wing political and cultural orthodoxy, and of course, punishing anyone who doesn’t adhere to their ideology or groupthink. It’s exactly why our founders jeopardized their fortunes, lives and family’s lives to mandate on the American continent that all men are created equal and form a more perfect union.
The “everything is racist” cultural cancer has now fully metastasized and is in our schools where our rulers continue their divide and conquer strategy this time targeting our children by teaching them how to hate themselves, how to hate others and, of course, how to hate their country. The espousing of hatred is based upon immutable physical characteristics and a delusional obsession with race. Rather than focusing on sovereignty, individualism, self-reliance, morality, character and diversity of thought – all hallmarks of American culture – they wish to alter the curriculum to insidiously include divisive and racist thinking with a dose of communism hidden under their newest euphemism called “equity” – which cleverly means equity of outcome and is derived from Marx and his Frankfurt school disciples who immigrated to the U.S. and were welcomed to the Ivy League in 1933.
Barrington community never disappoints in disappointing me. These comments and this article just reinforce the reputation we have far and wide for being a small-minded, insular area with lots of money but little conscious or world experience. Thank goodness for the young people involved in BTC and other organizations and their efforts to pull us into the 21st century. Frankly I’m amazed they still have hope for change. (But, you know, who needs to worry about such pesky issues like social justice and curing modern forms of racism when you have a great town motto – “character counts” in Barrington.)
You could always move to the south side if you’d like to keep it real.
Ania – I absolutely agree that character counts. And, I love the engagement of our youth and do hope that they continue in their engagement, I just wish it wasn’t at the expense of someone else’s self worth. I don’t want any child to be ashamed of the skin that God gave them and my review of the materials posted by the student alumni group certainly takes aim at that. Also, I would like for parents to have a very clear understanding and say in any type of ‘social education’ being provided to their children and whether they believe it is appropriate for him or her. In my opinion, this is not what we pay our teachers for or taxes toward – these are lessons we learn at home, in church, in youth centers, and other such places. If the school wants to offer extracurricular classes that parents and children can review the curriculum and choose to attend, go for it. Be the change, but be it with transparency and agreement, not by force. I can’t even get a straight answer as to whether or not this is a 501c3 and who actual members of the organization are. Why would I leave my child’s socialization to an organization that won’t publicly give me that limited information?
Sorry to burst the left-wing narrative but America is not a racist country. If America were such a horribly racist place then how do Asians so wildly succeed in literally every socioeconomic metric? Asians look different. They have different skin coloration. Many cannot even speak English upon their arrival. Why do they so overwhelmingly succeed in America? Wouldn’t all the knuckle dragging white supremacists that the Democrat Party and their media sycophants ceaselessly and breathlessly report are hiding behind every tree stop Asians from overtaking them educationally and economically? Nope…that doesn’t happen.
Asians succeed In America because they: keep their families together with fathers in their homes, value education and strive for academic excellence at every opportunity at every level, take risks and start businesses, work hard, don’t have children out of wedlock, don’t waste time complaining about being underrepresented in the public sector, and don’t go crying to the nanny state/government every time their feelings get hurt. They just keep plowing forward making better lives for themselves and their succeeding generations. In scientific sociological terms, Asians are “kicking ass and taking names”. Basically, Asian Americans embody all the characteristics of what it means to be a real American. They value America as constituted because they know it is the land of freedom and opportunity for all…most never want to return to their country of origin. All other races should emulate the Asian model in America and the country would be a much better place indeed.
Asians are so successful, that they are being openly discriminated against at our “elite” universities because of – wait for it – their physical characteristics. The Ivy League strikes again. Superiorly qualified Asian students are annually rejected admission to our “elite” universities in large numbers. It’s nauseating and our ruling elites don’t step up to stop the discrimination. Certainly the genius and enlightened faculty, student bodies and alumni at these universities should do something to stop the discrimination. But they don’t do anything…don’t want to tarnish that all important brand equity! But Asians don’t care and don’t look for that help. They just keep moving forward.

As a long time resident of Barrington and a parent of three students who attended B220 schools from K-12, I feel the need to address the dangers of Identity Politics being endorsed by BTCB (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N9DdAepfjRtjNjhA0UMddGkrXMFfNHU-/view).
Please be aware that BTCB’s 19 Structural Recommendations will be promoted by the candidates that have accepted this group’s support: Chan Ding, Ficke-Bradford, and Mitoraj. I can’t think of a more damaging doctrine to introduce to our children.
While it is impossible to say that there is no racism or bigotry in Barrington, our town has thankfully avoided proven crimes of this type. Yes, there have been 2 crimes committed in the past two years that have been alleged hate crimes, however, none have lead to prosecution as hate crimes after the facts were gathered. We must always be aware of discrimination in our community, but it is illogical, unwise and fiscally irresponsible to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.
Please make an effort to vote this Tuesday, April 6 or beforehand if you are able. Vote for the parents who don’t believe in the radical, race based education being promoted by BTCB. Vote for Karam, Wang, and McGonigal for school board and Croll, Ordway and Stenberg for Library Trustee.
We parents want B220 teachers to focus on educating our children, not on indoctrinating them with the belief that everyone should be identified by the color of their skin or sexual orientation.
This statement is making the rounds from the candidate who dropped out of the school board election:
It is with heavy heart that I write this but I could not remain silent. My name is Alex Strobl. I am a resident of Lake Barrington, a parent of three elementary aged students, and a former teacher and coach at Barrington High School (2005-2015). Recently I was a candidate running for the Barrington Area Unit School District 220. I am writing to share my experience in running for the school board and why I ultimately dropped my candidacy due to the partisan nature of some of the members on the school board.
I write now in response to (and to further expand on) a Daily Herald article titled “League of Women Voters decries party politics in Barrington local elections.” This article struck a chord with me as I agree that transparency is key. My purpose is to inform my community members and to shed additional light on the process as I experienced it. Specifically to inform you that currently two members of the school board are working hand in hand with partisan groups to select, vet, and sponsor candidates of their choosing. While I believe in robust political engagement of citizens across the spectrum, I believe it is a conflict of interest for school board members – who are in non-partisan positions – to actively be working with groups who select and vet candidates along partisan/ideological lines.
In December I was contacted by a current board member to run. I had previously expressed interest in running for a school board position to that board member and appreciated them reaching out. I am passionate about education, well versed on how things operate within the district, and I thought I could make a positive impact. Like many others, I want what is best for the children of Barrington.
I was told that I would be put in touch with a group that was initially described to me as a “group of community parents that could help get out the vote” and one that has helped to “elect other candidates.” Days later, someone else reached out to me to set up a meeting. The next day I signed into a Zoom call with about thirty members of the community. On the call were two current school board members: Penny Kazmier (current president) and Sandra Ficke-Bradford (current vice-president). I was told at the time that the group was a sort of steering committee and that the group was looking to diversify the school board in Barrington. The discussion we had and the questions that were asked seemed to be at one end of the spectrum. I mentioned to the group that I was not only a social studies teacher but was also an executive coach and a former Marine. In each instance, when I responded, my answers were analyzed and a member of the committee would “encourage” me to fine-tune it or at times to reframe it in another way. It was not at all what I expected. I had expected more of a dialogue in my first interaction. More importantly, I was taken aback that I was speaking to a group which I felt represented the school board and was left feeling that I did not fit their desired mold. Again, citizen groups can align to whomever they choose. The difficulty comes with the addition of school board members and the feeling that I needed to change to be welcomed on the board. I felt this interaction represented the board at large because I had been put in touch with the group by a current member coupled with the visible presence and participation of another two board members on the call. In short, in the weeks after the call I was disheartened by what I perceived to be the partisan nature of the group and a directive around what could and could not be said. It is ultimately why I withdrew from the race.
I have genuine desire to help unite this community and serve the students in another capacity. Perhaps I was a little naïve in believing that a non-partisan position such as the school board could ultimately be non-partisan. That said, I feel compelled to surface the hypocrisy of groups and articles pointing to “party politics” while other groups are quietly doing it themselves. I want to ensure that my friends, neighbors, and fellow community members know the machinery behind the scenes of the school board election.
Sounds like some people being critical of a PAC may have been operating one behind the scenes?
Holy crap! Holy freaking crap! So there are a group of 30 people unknown to our community who actually believe they get to choose the candidates that will run for school board? No wonder these people went absolutely ape crap when these group of moms and Steve Wang (Action Pac)got together and decided to run for school board, library board and others without their blessing. Good for Karam McGonigal and Wang. Ordway Croll and Dittmann. Tons of questions after reading this. Was Brian Harris aware of this? Who were the other 27 or so people on the call? These people need to answer questions before this upcoming election.
From what was said at a recent public forum, Erin Chan Ding was on the steering committee call too, a zoom session, with Ficke Bradford and Kasimierz. Not too long after she was endorsed by Be the Change and BEA.
Mitoraj, Windon and Ficke-Bradford all have PACs. Look it up elections.il.gov. And the four BEA sponsored candidates have iPACE, supporting them.
The entire “white privilege/critical race/systemic racism/implicit bias” argument can be easily dismissed with a quick examination of the facts. While the statistics are growing more difficult to find and the media refuses to cover the truth, the metrics clearly show that darker skin toned racial groups, e.g. Asians, East Indians, Nigerians, Ghanaians and others have enjoyed great success in America. These racial groups perform at the top, near the top or above average in almost every metric. Somehow these racial groups are immune to the pernicious racism that we’re told by our elites prevents some other darker skin toned people from socioeconomically performing at even average rates.
When presented with this irrefutable evidence, the Left then blames these successes on miming whiteness That is, these darker skinned racial groups do the things necessary to succeed in a white based society. This basically means: they work hard, promote education and strive for excellence, keep their families together with fathers morally and financially responsible for their offspring, start businesses, don’t have children out of wedlock, are law abiding, are good neighbors and friends. Yes…the Left is clearly at war with Western Civilization itself.
Asserting that systemic racism is everywhere but unable to actually prove it exists anywhere, the frustrated Left then switches to ad hominem attacks. They set about labeling anyone who disputes their narrative as “racist”. They suppress free speech and diversity of thought with threats of economic vengeance or even street violence by their modern day brown shirt equivalents called BLM and Antifa. The Left will stop at nothing to divide America and continue their power grab. In Washington, they are right now attempting to destroy the Constitution, placing the value of our currency at great risk, and centralizing power into a permanent regime with a series of legislative, policy and procedural moves.
The indoctrination of children is at the core of every communist dictatorship.
Poisoning the minds of our children with imaginary claims of racial hatred, teaching self-loathing and pitting groups against each other whether it is based upon class or skin color is straight out of the communist playbook.
This is now at the doorstep of Barrington D220. Elections have consequences. Vote wisely.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government.
The LWV neither supports nor opposes any candidate or party. After in-depth study and consensus, we take positions on public policy issues that we believe are in the interest of our democracy.
We denounce any form of voter suppression, or any practice that might unduly influence the results of an election.
Candidate forums are specifically designed to be fair to every candidate, with no bias or favoritism. Moderators do not handle any election in which they can vote. Questions are carefully vetted with fairness in mind, and each candidate answers the same set of questions. All candidates are treated with equal respect and gratitude for their service to their communities, and an understanding of the time, effort, and courage it takes to run for office.
League members come from all walks of life. We welcome members of all ages, races, genders, and abilities. We are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Every individual member is entitled to their own opinion on issues and candidates. Membership in the LWV will never preclude membership in another organization that the member chooses to participate in. The personal opinion of an individual member does not necessarily reflect the position of the League of Women Voters.

Co-Presdients, League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area
If that’s your platform, you failed. Miserably. You projected an agenda, whether intended or not, and you have lost credibility. Do better.
Oh this is rich. The LWV Vicki Martin who felt compelled to comment to Elena Ferrarin at the Daily Herald about “partisan behaviors” in the CUSD 220 when she herself and her organization was contacted by partisans complaining about a group of citizen moms and dads (the Action PAC) were organizing slates to run and do fundraisers.
Please ladies of the LWV’s your organization laid an egg this election cycle in the CUSD 220 race and your questions are so woke that I needed to order a “my Pillow” just to get over them. Thanks, Mike Lindel
Yeah…not so much. The LWV is partisan. You would be much better off just admitting your left-wing partisanship and moving on.
Vicki and Anne
I think once and for all the question of objectivity or bias of the local LWV has been finally put to bed. This time on Guiza dream sheets. Thanks Mike Lindell
Vicki and Ann – You, on behalf of the League, went on record to the Daley Herald criticizing three candidates in the D220 race for something they cannot control, an endorsement… from a Republican. You accused them of being partisan. Your actions were inexcusable and very much exposed you for what you are. The fact that you specifically chose to decline comment related to candidates in the Palatine District 211 race, where your league is based, for having ties to a Democrat, utilizing the office space of a Democrat, etc… very much shows your colors. Further, your questioning of the candidates during the D220 forum on multiple diversity/equity questions that were great areas of concern to the teachers’ union (BEA) and its endorsed slate while leaving out questions that went to the issues of concern of those they were actively criticizing for choosing not to seek the BEA endorsement and/or that of Be the Change (a diversity/equity student group) readily exposed your intent. You have lost credibility and your failure to publicly acknowledge your mistake, or apologize to the candidates you willfully denounced in the Herald article, and instead come onto this forum and try to show yourselves as reputable and non-partisan, misses the mark. Short of acknowledgment and apology, I don’t see how any candidate would ever trust you again to put on a fair forum.
