Tomorrow is the deadline for completing the 2020 Census. Sure, Village Hall has done their part in informing residents for nearly a year now and we thought we’d take this opportunity to show residents how we stack up before the deadline passes.
First, we looked at the Census Response Rates for communities surrounding, then included our Village for a comparison:
Census Response Rates as of October 3:
South Barrington 84.3%, Hoffman Estates 81.7%, East Dundee 82.2%, Carpentersville 76.6%, Algonquin 85.5%, Trout Valley 91.3%, Fox River Grove 84.1%, Barrington 81.1%, and Inverness 84.7%.
Barrington Hills currently has a response rate of only 71.6%.
We thought maybe the low rate was due to people just being too busy to spend 10 minutes filling out the form, so we checked with an area we’ve often been compared, The North Shore:
North Shore Census Response Rates as of October 3:
Lake Forest 78.6%, Glencoe 82.5%, Winnetka 82.1%, Lake Bluff 85.3%, Wilmette 85.8%, Highland Park 80.9%, Deerfield 86.2%, Evanston 75.8%, Kenilworth 82.5%, Glenview 81.2%, Northbrook 83.7%, and Northfield at 83.0%, all commonly considered the “North Shore.”
At 75%, Evanston was the lowest, but it still bests Barrington Hills with 71.6%.
Lastly, we looked at neighboring communities with high acreage as a possible factor, and it was there that we found a town with a lower response rate than ours:
Large acreage Census Response Rates as of October 3:
Wayne 79.7%, Homer Glen 85.1%, Wadsworth 82.5%, and ring that bell, Mettawa has only 64.4% so we are ahead of them at least (Yay?).
By now it should be clear why we chose to share this with some of our readers.
If you don’t feel “better than Mettawa” is good enough, then please fill out the 2020 Census form now, starting with clicking here if you haven’t already done so. Thank you in advance!
