With members of Lake Barrington’s Village Board of Trustees taking opposite positions about allowing residents to keep chickens in their yards, any legislation on the issue impacts only 20% of the town’s homes.
Trustees and Village President Kevin Richardson discussed the issue of allowing residents to raise chickens to produce eggs during a virtual special meeting of the Committee of the Whole June 3, deferring further dialogue to next month.
Village Administrator Karen Daulton Lange said all but 80% of Lake Barrington’s homes, including the approximate half who live in Lake Barrington Shores, are within subdivisions that prohibit raising chickens.
Lange said the remaining 20% of homes are either not in subdivision with requirements imposed by a homeowners association or are part of developments that do not prohibit chicken-raising.
