A number of area fire departments responded to a structure fire in Barrington Hills that left a vacant, two-story single-family home a total loss.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District officials said. Deputy Chief John Knebl said the house had been vacant for quite a while and no one was living in it.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was dispatched to a structure fire about 2:35 p.m. at 11365 Haegers Bend Road. The fire was declared out at 6:27 p.m., although crews remained on the scene until 7:30 p.m to investigate the fire and search for hot spots, officials said.
Because of the heavy fire conditions and the home’s location in a remote area without fire hydrants, the response was upgraded to a second alarm, which calls for additional units. The fire was attacked from the exterior, and water was shuttled in with the assistance of mutual aid fire departments.
