Barrington Hills Village President Martin McLaughlin defeated challenger Louis Iacovelli Tuesday and earned a second term in office by a margin of 68 votes, according to unofficial totals.
The results in the race to fill three spots on the village board were even tighter. Incumbent Colleen Konicek Hannigan, who got 537 votes, is the only sure winner. Just four votes separate challengers Robert M. Zubak, Paula Jacobsen and Matthew Vondra for second through fourth place. Zubak has 488 votes, Jacobsen 487 and Vondra 484.
Rounding out the board race were challenger Ralph Sesso with 401 votes and incumbent Elaine M. Ramesh with 397.
McLaughlin got 556 votes, 53.2 percent of the total, and Iacovelli got 488, around 46.8 percent.
All of the precincts in Lake, Cook, Kane and McHenry counties are accounted for but there still could be votes left to count from early voting, mail-in ballots.

One Guy’s Analysis
Voter turn-out in this election was almost the same as in 2013. What made it closer this time in the race for village president was the absence of the anti-Abboud vote. But this anti-Abboud sentiment was not entirely lost in this election cycle; it clearly was evident in the poor showing of last place finisher of disclosed candidates and Abboud “Save 5 Acres” political disciple, Elaine Ramesh.
Beside having to run away from her Save 5 Acres record as former VBH BOT member, once Rosene and Abboud injected themselves into this race with their fake news stories against Marty and Colleen under the misleading heading, Citizen Alerts, VBH residents were once again reminded of the disgraceful and shameless “Save 5 Acres” political team tactics of the past. This spelled absolute doom for the Silent One.
I am appreciative of the job Marty, Colleen and remainder of the Unite Barrington Hills BOT have done getting village business back on the right track these past 4 years while healing VBH from the destructive politics and abysmal governance during the Abboud era.
I would be remiss, if I did not thank former VBH Pres. Robt. G. Abboud and former VBH Polo Club Pres. John Rosene for accomplishing what many of us were truly struggling to do for Marty and Colleen this election cycle and that is motivate many to vote. Thanks guys, you did it again with just a few words!
Along with Bobby and John, I would like to thank BHO for its continued balanced reporting over these past years and its tireless effort of bringing honest facts to its readers.
