Jack Bavaro pointed out the proximity of a backyard to an orange flag marking the right of way for the proposed Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor to show how close the four-lane road will be to homes. “We want to bring attention that this is a residential area,” said Bavaro, holding a sign reading “Not a done deal.” “How do you put a road (allowing) 18-wheel semitrucks to pass near homes?”
Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor is the $115 million project that has been in the works for more than 25 years in northern Kane County. It is about 5.6 miles, beginning at Huntley Road west of the Fox River, ending at Route 62.
The Kane County Department of Transportation recently sought bids for the latest phase of the project, reconstructing and widening Longmeadow Parkway west of Randall Road to Karen Drive, according to county documents. County board members are expected to vote on a $13.8 million contract to the lowest bidder, Plote Construction Co. of Hoffman Estates, at its Tuesday meeting. Kane County’s share is about $2.8 million, documents stated.
