Audio recordings from the July 25th Equestrian Commission meeting have been posted to the Village website. To access the menu of recordings edited by agenda topic, click here.
Some of the agenda items crossed paths with others during the meeting, and the recording topics don’t necessarily cover what was discussed, so we’ll attempt to highlight what was covered by the commissioners.
Trustee Maison reported she participated on a recent conference call with a representative of Cook County regarding the status of Horizon Farms. The “north” portion of the property has reopened, however some areas to the south remain closed. Also, the county has hired consultants to conduct a market analysis in August to determine how best to utilize the property.
The full trustee report can be heard here.
The commission has begun to document trail crossing signs throughout the Village using a cell phone based application that maps the exact location of the signs. This will help to determine where signs may be needed based on the horse Village horse trail map. That discussion can be heard here.
Unfortunately, there was no meeting packet published for this meeting, so the trail map the commissioners discussed is somewhat difficult to follow. Considering some residents have closed their private trails, we believe the Village should publish the trail map on the Village website so that it can be accurately updated to avoid placing crossing signs where a connecting trail may no longer exist.
One resident provided public comment, and his remarks can be heard here.
I listened to the public comment from resident Jan Goss and it made me sad. He is a good man and yet he was vilified by people that he is acquainted with because he described them with some harmless words. These acquaintances made fun of him by having buttons printed up to mock and intimidate him. His tenure on the ZBA, which is good position for someone who sees both sides of this ongoing problem, is probably at stake.
Jan, you don’t have to apologize to anyone for wanted some common sense and decorum in our public discourse. Unfortunately, some of the equine zealots in this village are still playing like the bullies do at Countryside School.
Too bad they weren’t listening when those with some common sense urged the Board of Trustees for a Commission to get some good ideas on the table to solve this problem. No, the zealots on the board said it was our way or no way.
Keep speaking your heart and what you think is best for ALL of the residents of Barrington Hills.
Ditto on Jan Goss and the people who have courage and conviction to do what is right and not bow to the intimidation of the extremes. More and more stories surface about how those bent on equestrian dominance use social exclusion and lies to demean the character of some of our fine residents.
There is a reason why our Village is losing people wanting to move and the glut of homes on the market with lowering values is proof. Those wanting this to be an equestrian only community are having their way fulfilling the plans of [a former village president], John Rosene, [former Zoning Board chair] and others.. More properties are now affordable for people to move here to run their commercial boarding, training, etc. operations.
The Florida resident crowd are part of the problem hiding behind their inability to vote while their Village is destroyed. Support of big gala charity events is great, but our Village is sinking underneath the glitter. We’re losing our residential rights and unique open spaces community.
Village leadership (elected and those on the sidelines) need to step up and get aggressive. They can start with public explanation of the monstrosity being built at the corner of Algonquin and Old Sutton. Is that construction and use complying with the approved special use permit? What about the lighting impacts of that property on neighbors?
Watch and listen to how people like Jan Goss and others are ridiculed publicly and privately. They need our vocal support.
Soooo agree
As a victim of their character assassination to include the dishonor of my deceased husband, Thomas Boyle Kia Afghanistan. I know full well the depths of lies and ridicule this ‘group’ can sink. Disgusting how they treat a Gold Star Family.
Never Forget!
