There are a number of local events are taking place tomorrow in honor of Independence Day in Barrington. Here are but a few:
Family Fitness Run: This fundraising race sponsored by Advocate Good Shepard Hospital begins at 7:15 AM on Monday in downtown Barrington at the corner of Cook Street and Park Avenue. This year only a small portion of the 10K run involves Barrington Hills roads as depicted below:
Residents may encounter some brief delays on Otis and Hawley Woods Roads early Monday during the race, but anyone slightly inconvenienced should remember this is for a good cause. For more information on the fitness run event, click here.
Barrington 4th of July Parade: The theme of this year’s parade is “The Best of Barrington – Celebrating Our Community.” The parade begins at 10:00 AM starting at Barrington High School following Main Street east to the Barrington Metra station. For more information, click here.
Lions Club Brat Tent: The Lions Club Brat Tent is open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday. For more information, click here.
Barrington Fireworks Display: The fireworks display begins at dusk over the grounds of Barrington High School.
We wish everyone a very festive and safe Independence Day!
Could someone please explain why a village like ours (which houses numerous horses, dogs, llamas, cats, and other animals), lets everyone shoot off fireworks and firecrackers with no regard to the welfare of it’s pets and residents? Why aren’t special use permits refused, tickets issued, and postings made in papers and websites to discourage this ridiculous practice? One of our animals had to go to an emergency vet because of shaking and vomiting from the fireworks that landed in our back pasture. A special thank you to all the alleged animal lovers that did this to our family.
Same happened here – fireworks from a neighbor scared our horses to death! I’ve never seen them so terrified and they have not been able to calm down or eat much for the past day.
Your animals would have been just as upset if you lived next to Lake Barrington Shores. There was fireworks going off all over the area and if you were that upset why didn’t you call the police?
Kilroy;
You expound so eloquently on subjects that you have no knowledge of!
From Antietam to Gettysburgh to the Confederate surrender at that quaint little court house in Appomattox VA. like mahy thousands of other equine carrying warriors on both sides of the “Second War of Independence” my galliant horse Traveler relished the deafening sounds of the rebel yell, cannon and gun fire without wimper, tremble, vomiting or fear.
“Fear”, “shaking” and “vomiting” in reaction to sounds of fire crackers and fireworks by Barrington Hills’ horses in reaction to those few patriots celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in recognition to a fading Democratic Republic demonstrates measurable decline in toughness and readiness in this once brave beast.
I just wish Traveler and those equine who served proudly with and against Traveler during these epic battles were still among us to show Barrington HIlls equine and their riders how to sit tall in the saddle when dealing with loud and unexpected noise in celebration of the 4th of July!
Our neighbors said they moved to BH for the peace and quiet…. but…… on July 4, 2008 our neighbors had fireworks for 3 HOURS. They were the expensive PYROTECHNICAL type, the big ones that go BOOM, that went into the air 30-50 feet and up into the tree line and above in the sky over them. And they were shooting them off EVERY 30 seconds for 3 hours. These explosions were only 300 feet from our bedroom window on our house.
I called the BH police three times when I was sitting on our balcony so they could hear how loud, but only got the dispatcher and NO ONE came to do anything. She said the police were busy with other things. They said there were no permits given to that address.
Earlier the police were at the neighbors around 5:30pm because the people were so loud at their party during the daylight time when they were playing volleyball near the kennel and saying “Woohooo! This will get them going!” (I could tell you the name of the officer that came who was on call that day)
At that time I had my show kennel in the village (Some of my dogs and their offspring have won awards, points and titles in the US & Canada. And they have champion bloodlines from 16 countries and Westminster winning siblings, parents, grandparents) and any dog that was bred was under extreme stress and was giving birth THAT NIGHT because of the explosions, even if not full term. And you know how dogs have sensitive hearing. For some people’s dogs thunderstorms are bad enough for dogs to seek a hideaway.
We live in the woods and have over 12 acres. The next morning there were at least 50 baby birds hoping all over our yard and the other neighbors 4 cats were trying to eat the baby birds, many were speckled Robin babies.. so the mother and father birds were swooping down trying to dive bomb the cats.
But there were other baby birds who could not fly or hop away. Cause they fell out of the trees and onto the grass out of fright that night.
There was a mother doe with twin fawns also seeking refuge in our yard.
I was wondering how the horses and cattle were handling the fireworks that night as well.
So much for peace and quiet. I have never seen birds fall out of a tree from a barking dog… and Fireworks are a higher decibel than a woof from a dog.
