Village President John Schmitt spent more than two hours fielding questions from residents regarding the long-planned Longmeadow Parkway project at a town hall meeting on Thursday night.
Schmitt began by addressing concerns he had heard, saying that Algonquin officials had ensured that trees along Longmeadow Parkway originally marked for removal would be retained and that Algonquin police would work to address any issues that arise with cut-through traffic.
Residents spent the next two hours citing concerns that included the impact of the project on property values, the safety and noise issues the road would bring, what impact it would have on taxes and how many trucks would use the road.

I attended this meeting, and I was delighted to see so many residents attending, protesting, and demanding answers to questions on LMP. One outstanding piece of information, was that all the Algonquin Trustees in fact all live in McHenry, and not Kane where the LMP will be situated.
I have been following this effort closely, and have read all sorts of material from the opposition’s website curb or stoplongmeadow.com. Everything is very laid out very well, and it is patently clear what is being done and for whom.
It would be very nice before this project receives more green lights to force village officials and our President to take more action to oppose this project. Our village should post links for residents to sign online petitions and support our sister communities’ fight against this horrible taxpayer boondoggle. Call the village Monday, and demand that they make information available in the newsletter and allow us to register our residents’ opposition to the plan. Why has the handling of this effort been so controlled? Makes one wonder, are they also in support of the plan? There’s nothing positive coming from LMP dead ending and dumping traffic on to route 62. Will that be a benefit to us over the long haul?
From city planners’ comments, the bridge portion won’t be biil for two or three years. They still need millions of dollars to complete the funding portion of the bridge. There’s still time to make your opinions known and stop this before it’s too late!
