Great meeting tonight! Another perfect example of civility and reasoned discussions from those wanting to protect the Village’s equestrian heritage.
The best endorsement of our Village as a place to live where our tranquil environment is only surpassed by the harmony and affection shown to one another is to listen to the recordings from this meeting. Should help spike our property values.
Can’t wait for those to surface so that all can cherish the massive goodwill in this Village trying to come together.
Special kudos to Knoop, Rosene, Abboud, Little Meroni who provided reasoned comments with no hint of self serving interests or vindictiveness. Selman’s defense of her track record of integrity and Anderson’s accusations possibly smelled a bit of “thou dost protest too much.” All equestrians should be so proud of these emissaries working to advance their interests to make Barrington Hills a commercial destination for all of Chicago with Oakwood Farms as a centerpiece with their 7 year retroactive protection.
Mr. Pappas certainly admonished the Village President for lack of consideration holding this meeting on Yom Kippur (Mr. Kosin?). Wondering why the holiest day in Judaism, coupled with the Papal visit to the US, did not inspire the “spirit of atonement” celebrated in this most holy of Jewish Holidays at the meeting. No question that Mr. Pappas respected those Christian/Judeu values with his threats to investigate the President’s financial firm for managing assets of those involved in the litigation. No hint of slander in those accusations.
Even comedy stilled the night as celebrity and ex-President Bob Abboud, who brought us 35 illegal nominations to Village Committees after losing the election in violation of the Open Meetings Act, renewed his political platform attacking President McLaughlin on issues that had nothing to do with the commercial boarding and litigation issue. Maybe Bob can reopen the Sears litigation he so tirelessly worked in our behalf. The Village’s exposure is too limited these days.
Golly, what wonderful harmony.

For those of you who missed the meeting; it truly was one for the ages. You had former Village attorney Abboud lecturing current Village attorney, McLaughlin on the “rule of law”. You had former BOT member Knoop, the architect of “Save 5 Acres” decrying the anonymous mailings sent out to residents and equestrian lumnary and Save 5 Acre propogandist, John Rosene whining the “Fix” was in . . . . . No facts or evidence mind you, . . . . just emotional blather by a mindless windbag.
As I recall, the fix may have occurred during the first quarter of 2011, when former VBH President issued the Schuman Letter 34 days after his Save 5 Acre political team of Messer, Meroni and Selman received a $15,000 secret and illegal campaign donation from LeCompte. I believe John Rosene was in charge of making this campaign disclosure with the IL State Board of Elections for “Save 5 Acres”. Ergo, the need for the Retroactivity Provision!
It was also disclosed at the meeting by a VBH resident that $10,000 of our taxpayer money was used by former VBH President to prepare surveying and engineering plans for the benefit of a private resident and coincidentally major donor of Save 5 Acres to the tune of $30,000. These architectural and engineering plans cost VBH taxpayers $10,000.00.
Why didn’t John Rosene and Steve Knoop decry these suspicious practices by former VBH President? It is not like each didn’t know. It is no consolation prize that after 8 years as VBH President, Abboud during his recent absence from village office finally took the time to review Village Code regarding legal obligations of village president. This should have been done or at least explained to Abboud when VBH residents were foolish enough to elect him . . . . and then, elect him again!
It is time for John Taffer to open up the books of the VBH government between 2006 – 2011 with assortment of very strong interesting cocktails for residents, because I think we will need it.
Hopefully next time we hear from each of these individuals, it will be in a more formal setting with at least one, I suspect, asserting his 5th Amendment Rigtht against Self Incrimination.
I join in with distinguished VBH trial attorney John Pappas, lets move this party from the boardroom to the courtroom!
