Work on the long-planned Longmeadow Parkway likely will start as anticipated next spring, despite opposition than now includes one of the local governments that originally backed it.
The project has been sought by local governments for more than 20 years, but the government of Barrington Hills switched its support position and denounced the proposed 5.6-mile, east-west corridor as a bad idea for the village that was not accurately presented to its residents.
After years of support, which included a successful 2006 advisory referendum, the Barrington Hills Village Board in June stated it now opposes it. The village, which is fiercely protective of its suburban enclave of open space, large lots and rural characteristics, now states the Longmeadow project threatens that.

can someone site the 2006 “referendum” referred to above?
There was never a referendum.

Every morning from Monday through Friday, I sit at my kitchen table, drink my coffee, and watch the east bound Rt. 62 traffic either standing still or crawling, while waiting for the lights to change 3 miles down the road at Rts.62.68,and 59.
Pray tell what will it be like when the Longmeadow Tollway adds all the additional traffic to the mix? I am glad I am retired and don’t have to be a frustrated driver having to endure this inevitable catastrophe.
Well there will be a good case to be made (unfortunately) for Algonquin Rd to be widened to 4 lanes through Barrington Hills once the “Park”way is completed
It appears this another “improvment” we can thank Bobby and company for. How do they sleep at night?
what does the public think of the background discussion going on about connecting via rt 25 extension across the river via Haegers Bend and up through Cary?
Thank you Observer for the links above. So it appears this news article incorrectly states a “Referendum” took place when in fact it was a BOT discussion and vote to pass a “Resolution”…..Perhaps the newspaper/blog should be asked to clarify or retract this – as it portrays a public approval by the citizens which did not happen. In fact there were at least two referendums within Carpentersville in which the majority were in opposition to this project when it was labeled as “Bolz Road Bridge” and one in support which was centered on the idea of a “Lake Marian road” bridge only.
Check the NWHERALD online “POLL” – it appears to not be updating votes as cast ??? I count 103 updates as of 12:55pm Sunday. If anyone else “votes” please post what # the count was up to as visible on the site.
