Among the larger projects announced as part of Illinois’ annual highway improvement plan is Longmeadow Parkway, which will receive nearly $63 million from fiscal 2016 to 2019, said state Sen. Karen McConnaughay, R-St. Charles.
“We’ve been working on this before I was [Kane County Board] chairman,” said McConnaughay, who served as chairman before being elected a state senator in 2012. “Longmeadow Parkway was part of an environmental impact study … for multiple bridge crossings in Kane and Kendall counties.”

For those not aware of the plans for this “Parkway” – it will begin at the junction of Autumn Trail and rt 62. This is just west of the Kane/Cook county line. If you think this will add to the pressure to open up rt 62 to four lanes in the near future and/or add to congestion on rt 62 in the near-term, perhaps you can get involved and help stop this project. If you oppose spending 63 million dollars the state does not have – maybe you can see a way to join your neighbors who oppose this. If you believe the traffic studies that Kane COunty has used in their justification for this – you would see that the net effect of adding this 4 -lane highway will be to relieve traffic volume on I-90 and have no impact on traffic on rt 62 (study done before impact of rt 31 bypass completion).
