No contested races for village president materialized in the Barrington area by the time filing closed at 5 p.m. Friday [should be Monday]. But things will be hopping for the village boards.
In Barrington Hills, six candidates filed paperwork ahead of the Monday deadline. The ballot will feature challengers Mary Naumann, Bryan C. Croll, Michelle Nagy Maison and Brian D. Cecola, as well as incumbents Karen Selman and Patty Meroni.

This is easy……………..looks like Brian, Bryan and Michelle in alpha order.
With the announcement of the candidate filings for the April 2015 election, it should be a NO brainer for village residents at the ballot box. In with the new and out with the old, as they say…
In fact, when one attends village board meetings and witnesses the dysfunction it is clear to see that we are in need of replacing the desperate house wives with candidates who will have the people’s back.
Spending in this village has spiraled out of control, and there’s simply no sound explanation for budgetary over runs in legal fees, road repairs, etc. OMA violations are simply the tip of the iceberg, there needs to be accountability at all levels of government business.
It’s high time to get the people’s business done, any excuses will result in four more years of stonewalling President’s McLaughlin’s visisonary agenda. President McLaughlin has already demonstrated his desire to improve our fiscal spending, with his successful mediation of the Sears suit; but he can’t do it alone. Strength is found in numbers, so let’s get these good people elected!
Yes Jebb, absolutely. However, please note that Naumann is not new: she’s part of Abboud’s minions along with Meroni and Selman. So with Naumann, we would be trading one for another. The ONLY non partisan and INTELLIGENT folks to vote for are the ones with zero marching orders except to clean up the embarrassing mess and bring order and peace back to our village (along with improved property values) is Brian, Bryan and Michelle. They will work for us, not some disposed despot.
Naumann is another Abboud ringer! Beware!
For the first time since the results of the 2013 election I’m starting to feel optimistic again for the future our village. Colleen and Martin have done a great service to Barrington Hills residents under the circumstances considering the outside special interests and legacy politics continuing to influence the majority of our Board of Trustees.
Rather than looking backward as some do and might, I’m changing my focus to look forward as I did two years ago. It seems we have three candidates running that have no controlling interests over them as was the case for the aforementioned “new” board members elected two years ago, and we’ve witnessed what they have been able to accomplish. Now it’s time for more change.
We should all be grateful Michelle, Brian and Bryan have recognized change is needed in our village governance. I plan to provide any and all support I can behind them during their campaign. I encourage all reading this to do the same.
I agree whole heartedly with the last commenters. One of the chief reasons our board is so incredibly fractured is because of the seated Trustees President McLaughlin and Colleen have to tolerate every month. The “road and pony” show makes an absolutely mockery of our system of government. All the agenda action items are shot down because the Trustees are people have committed themselves to an endless contract with one only one segment of BH residents.
The announcement of the candidates offers this village three individuals a refreshing slate; who have no baggage or associations which could steer this election in a different direction. Selman and Meroni’s vote to continue the same tired and predictable agenda is nothing new. Mary Naumann will continue that tradition, as she is a special interest candidate from the bike lane debocle. We need to guard against her entrance into the race, because they have a slanted and radical view of government’s role as it relates to making policy and passing needed reforms.
The puppet masters will continue to pull the strings, all behind the scenes. And the puppets will dance accordingly. Residents need to know that just because Abboud isn’t the political face of the Save 5 acres club, that doesn’t mean that he won’t be the concert master. He is involved in every phase, and won’t leave a libelous comment from the lips of his Trustee wannabes during this election.
Trustee Harrington and Trustee are Gohl are active enablers, and their agendas are becoming less transparent with each BOT meeting. They have already soiled their records! By voting against residents, they are assuring that their terms are on a countdown clock.
Our larger task as I see it, is that devoted residents to what they can to control the venomous dialogue and keep the pressure up regardless of the horse blinders which are in place.
I”m optimistic too, because President McLaughlin needs to have a board members who will provide him the logical stability and rational intelligence to give this village a fighting chance to emerge from financial debts and restore it’s once glowing reputation.
Not really knowing any of these “new candidates” for VBH BOT or recalling any of them being vocal in recent years against the “corruption”, “waste” and “mismanagement” of taxpayer funds by former Pres. Abboud with the support by his obedient “Save 5 Acre” BOT majority, I will wait for Pres. McLaughin’s candidate endorsements.
Joseph Messer deserves our special thanks for his decision of not running again. By making this decision, Joe has for the first time (since first being elected) made the interests of VBH residents a priorty. It is unfortunate Meroni and Selman decided not to do the same. In 2015, Meroni and Selman will have to run on their individual record of service rather than cheap campaign slogans and libelous photos of opposition candidates by the “ghost writer”.
Just think what Pres. McLaughlin can achieve with an independently thinking village board not beholden to a politicallly bankrupt former village president and “Save 5 Acre” political team supported by radical commercial minority special interests who just recently (through their majority votes on various VBH boards) passed an ordinance which is a direct assault on our 5-acre estate residentail way of life introducing for the first time in VBH a mixed business use catagory anywhere in R1 or 5-acre zoned areas.
With exception of Save 5 Acre cronies Selman and Meroni who must be defeated, I will wihthold my support for any of the “new” candidates until such time as I hear from them and Pres. McLaughlin.
