The Village has released the agenda for Monday’s Zoning Board of Appeals public hearing regarding horse boarding amendment proposals. According to the agenda, the board may vote on both boarding proposal separately for possible recommendation to the Village Board after public comment is heard from attendees.
A copy of the agenda can be downloaded here, or it can be viewed here.
The entire ZBA should be ashamed of themselves and without a doubt if their pre-staged vote goes thru better believe there will be repercussions. This community has had it with LeCompte, the riding club, Judith Freeman, Anderson and Joe Messer. All eyes are on you. Go ahead and destroy your reputations and destiny. But we will not sit still and let you destroy OUR community. This is the moment we have been waiting for.
I say all in opposition close the horse trails on your property ASAP. Then we can meet at the negotiation table.
Years ago the RCBH asked us if we would put a horse trail on our property. We contacted our insurance agent and he said he’d have to check on this. A couple of days went by and we got a call from a VP with the company (Farm Bureau) who informed us if we allowed the trail on our property our coverage would be immediately terminated. Checked with State Farm afterward and got the same answer so we had to say no of course.
Sounds to me that this move is going to be a Pandora’s Box which will let so many more problems occur in our small town. Why should this proposal to allow designation as “agricultural” for commercial horse boarding operations be acceptable to the majority of residents? Is the small group of elites going to have their way with the rest of us? Time to stand up and be counted!
We did – two years ago. What is and should be appalling to the community is that a few insist on continually creating havoc and dissention to get their way. While speaking out against the text amendment on Monday – why not ask for the resignations of Messer, Freeman, Anderson – oh heck just add the entire ZBA.
The issue of whether or not to allow business activitiy in the form of Commercial Horse Boarding beyond the parameters of the recently adopted Home Occupation Ordinance in R1 (“5 acre”) zoning in BH affects all residents. No matter where you might think you stand on this issue, I encourage all BH residents to attend the ZBA meeting on July 21st and be respectful to each public speaker who by having the courage to step before the podium has some passion about this most important issue.
It behooves each BH resident to take the time to review and analyze both the LeCompte and BHRC proposals for text amendment to BH Village Code considering, if adopted, their potential short-term and longterm impact on R1-
5-acre residential way of life.
An informed, vocal and vigilant electorate is the foundation to a healthy Republic. Let’s be that Republic by first, getting INFORMED and then, second, by being HEARD!
David Stieper, Resident and BH ZBA member
If the ZBA is reasonable they will listen to public comment. And reject both of these similar proposals even if they do try to push commercial boarding. For if they do, there would be much more palatable language that better protects the residents and taxpayers of Barrington Hills.
