On the village website you can view and print a copy of the proposed annual appropriation ordinance for 2012. I personally have so many questions – one thought is the $150,000 foia records appropriation – so would it be safe to assume that this money is added to the salary of village administrator Kosin? He is the new foia officer – correct? So his salary is in excess of $390,000 – don’t forget to add the ‘longevity’ pay. Which I have no idea what that payment means but he is not the only employee to receive this stipend. I think every resident should attend Thursday’s meeting. If you don’t attend – don’t complain about your taxes…………..or anything else that happens in this village.
I seem to recall a candidate in the last Village election offered some information that other villages and cities (bigger than Barrington Hills) in the area did not “budget” for FOIAs, that the requests were answered by existing staff and included in the staff’s salary. There is a per-page charge allowed, $.10 or some figure, per page. Bills from one of the law firms retained by Abboud showed a charge for FOIAs relating to public’s requests to see their bills! cha-ching$$$.
By the look of this Budget, Abboud wasn’t kidding when he remarked that the severe downturn in the economy has not affected Barrington Hills. “Happy Days continue in B.H.” and we the taxpayers of B.H. are footing the bill for the Village party.
Congratulations to Burke Warren for another involuntary $800,000 commitment from B.H. tax payers (which in the end will exceed 1 million dollars). This must be a vote of confidence by Abboud and our Save 5 acre Board Members on the fine work in you have done covering for Abboud on the Oakwood Farm matter/Schuman Letter.
Compare B.H. Budget to Inverness and Long Grove which are comparable in size and geographical area. This will provide you with an insight as to the extent B.H. tax payers are getting ripped off.
I expect Abboud will admonish all those residents who dared FOIA the Village as the reason for the $150K increase in the FOIA appropriation. This is an increase of $110,000 over last years budget for this item alone. A simple solution to doing away with this FOIA expense is for Abboud to resign or be removed from office.
The FOIA line item is only one example of the cost of dishonest and incompetent Village government we are being called to finance. Perhaps if Abboud and the Village focused on FOIA compliance rather than FOIA avoidance, with the assistance of Burke Warren, this expense would be insignificant like other Villages.
But then again, other Villages don’t have Abboud at the helm.
