Passionate parents lobbied Barrington Unit District 220 board members Tuesday to continue a Chinese language immersion program after learning most of a $1.5 million federal grant expected to provide funding for another four years was being pulled by Congress.
Board members promised to look for ways to make that possible while cautioning that the popular program serving about 100 students was only one of many pressures on a budget already burdened by many unknowns.

Are you kidding me? Parents lobbying so that 100 students can study Chinese at $15,000/year per student? Let them send their kids to private lessons on their dime. Any wonder that our school system is broke?
Maybe the D220 board should have paid more attention to Nick Sauer when he was the only member who voted against the program back in 2010 because of the uncertainty of its future funding back. In little over a year, his fears have been realized. We need more representatives like him looking out for us taxpayers.
I wish Sauer the best in his run for Lake County Board, but it certainly will be 220’s loss if he wins.
